Well if he doesn't learn quickly he will get burned. You have to be able to defend in Europe you cant just go all out attacking. We don't get put under pressure that often in the SPL so we dont know how to defend properly when that happens.
I worry that the heads will go down after this and i hope Ronnie has the man management skills to get the confidence going.
He maybe just out his depth at this level!!!!

    ^^^^ Good article that.

The only part I disagree with is that last night's result would have been the same if Neil Lennon had still been manager. I don't believe that. Neil Lennon would have shut up shop a lot more effectively once we went down to 10 men. I think we'd probably have escaped with a 2-1 defeat if Neily had still been in the dugout.

    I'm not picky.
Unfortunately I can actually see this happening as well if we win next week. Yesterday's result will be branded as a "bad night" and that we have a "strong squad able to compete in the Champions league". We'll get the same guff that the Board always give us when we get good results.

    Nail on the head.

If there going to not make the move on the next step in this 'business model', at least make it reasonable in terms of costs.

Charging Seville era prices for utter dross leads to one thing, empty sections and eventually stands.

We played a 4-2-3-1 last night but I think Deila chose the wrong players to play in some of those positions. I think he should have had Izaguirre starting, Berget on the bench with McGregor on the left and then Stokes/Griffiths on the right so we would have had Griffiths, Commons, and McGregor as the three behind Pukki.

Also, we were just too attacking after we went 2-1 down and lost Ambrose. Should have played with a bit more caution and then tried to counter them rather than try and go gung-ho.

1st thing I'll say is I think it's unfair to label Deila the 'cheap option'. We did pay compensation for the guy after all, the cheap option would have been Coyle or Mackay, who were both unemployed and would have cost nothing.

I had a bad feeling about last night and very few players escape criticism for me. It also struck me that they still don't seem to understand the system. Some players would step up and play the high-press game and some wouldn't, seriously, did we catch them offside even once? Also, who the * was supposed to be 'holding' in midfield, because they seemed to just constantly waltz on to our back 4. Defending was criminal at times and the players looked unfit, clueless and tired. Some of that blame has to lie with the manager. Starting the new guy was criminal, did he even touch the ball? Total waste of a jersey.

As for the board, I have stood up for them on many occasions but not this time. We basically had the same team as last year minus Sammy, who was probably our best player in Europe last season. We've signed a goalkeeper that hasn't played since the huns were alive and loanee from Cardiff, is that seriously the level of our ambition? We've had basically a season to prepare for these qualifiers and nothing has been done and here we are .. on our * again.

As others have alluded to, we never seem to learn. There is a genuine lack of quality right through the team.

What I will say is Strachan's first game was the Bratislava mauling and he went on to build a decent European side that made the last 16, so the manager needs to be given time.

Who knows, maybe we will get out of jail next week!:87:

Time to get off the pity pot, and get behind the Bhoys.

Ok, so it was a crappy result, and this wasn't the first, nor will it be the last. What will this negativity, naval gazing and finger pointing serve to prove? Qualifying for Europe is never an easy task, and not just because of the quality of the squad or bedding in of a new manager.

WGS inherited a side that still included the likes of Sutton, Thompson, Hartson, Lenny, Balde et al, yet we all remember that disasterous result in Bratislavia.

There was some inexperience on display naturally, and the decision to push so high up on the park has to be called into question. Yes, questions should be asked of the Board, but likewise questions should be put to the manager also. It is commendable that people are not trying to point the finger at our new manager as he is taking the steps to acclimatize to like at Parkhead, but nor should he escape censure.

As for the Board, wel, the long term longevity of the Club is always paramount. Having the side available to compete and top the SPL has to remain the priority during a period when there is so much doubt surrounding the future of Scottish football - and reckless spending is not the way to progress. Leave that to the likes in Govan.

This is going to be a bread and butter season. European dalliances this season, from a business POV, this is not the top priority. It sincerely hurts me to say that, but regretfuly, it is self evident that this is the case.

So now we have a choice - remain on the pity pot, pointing fingers and lamenting our woes. Or get behind the Bhoys, with hope in our hearts and for better or for worse, accept that this is our team. We all care passionately about our club, and want the absolute best for it, and sometimes that means taking the crunchy with the smooth.

Of course fans have the right to * about the overpriced merchandise and tickets - and with good reason. Although Ronnie was brought in on the back of a record of developing youngsters and fitted with the business model currently employed by the Club, so naturally it would be that the Board would prefer to invest into these areas, but at the same time, perhaps see how the manager is able to adapt and work with the toos he has before the Board start greenlighting huge amounts for player transfers... because the last time this happened it didn't turn out too well, with the failures that accompanied Mowbray's tenure an all to clear and not forgotten memory.

We had one of our worst summers in memory. I called it early on...wanted to be proved wrong. Sad thing is, we were lucky to get this far. Now we have Thursday footie!

We still didn't spend money after the Legia match hahahaha, we wanted not to qualify. An excuse to spend nothing and downsize further by choice. We don't want to pull too far ahead of the huns.

    Peter Lawwell

After tonight's result, is it not about time that Peter Lawwell did the honorable thing and walked away from the club for good? , every season we have been constantly downsizing and relying on the team to reach the group stages of the Champions League without bringing in anyone early to get through these qualifiers and tonight it has backfired big time, we had the chance to do get through tonight and we blew it, and it now looks like VVD will be sold to make up for the loss of CL revenue.

He will, rightly, be the subject of increasing pressure. No matter how good he has been for this Club he has made 1 enormous * up this Summer.
