At the moment, Aidan looks a decent if inconsistent SPL player but looks well short at CL and international level. I just think he has been fast-tracked and overhyped and I think having him as the only pacey winger in our squad is madness. He may still be learning his trade but for now you dont want to rely totally on the guy with L plates. We need another fast skillful winger in ASAP. You could see v Shaktar that we were very pedestrian and some blistering pace would have helped. I would be happy if that winger was shaun but I dont care as long as ihe is quality and has pace.

He doesn't cross the ball and he doesn't score goals, we have enough entertainers. In the CL he is only good as a sub when the game is drawn out. Although to be fair i can't remember Naka having a great game in the CL last year.

We're gonna be so glad we have this guy in a couple of seasons i think. At 21 he is a far better player than Maloney was,of course he has his faults.McGeady has come on in leaps and bounds under Strachan, even when he's having a stinker these days he works his socks off.Needs to work on his final ball and end product can be lacking. His problem in the SPL is that a lot of teams play a 4-5-1 and double team him and lord knows Naylor is no use to him.He has all the technical attributes to be a real player.I'd love to see him play in the hole, especially in a 4-5-1 away from home in Europe game. But he's the fan's whipping boy when everything is not going too well

Shaun was 22 when he started his great unbroken run that lead to the awards. He had been out for a year with a cruciate inury too. Aidan is 21 now. He is well inferior to Maloney at 22 in almost every aspect (shot, deadball, pace, goals, assists, vision, decision making, crossing, passing, ball retention and general end product) apart from dribbling which is only of limited use without the other stuff. I really want Aidan to prove me wrong but I dont think Aidan will be nearly as good at these things as Shaun was when he is 22, there is too big a quality gap to close in one year. We dont know if he will ever be that good, vfew are. To me his main value at present is a tricky outball to get us up the pitch but his end product is shocking even by SPL standards. Shaun is the best product of our youth policy in 20 years and the loss of a player who was very fast, tricky, had a superb deadball, had a superb shot, crossed great, scored goals, had a great football brain and had an exemplary attitude and nature is a tragedy. He was half the teams creativity (Naka was the rest) and he has not been replaced. If we can get him back we should. OK I am not going to talk about him any more.

It shows how weak our squad is, when we bring in "killen & mcgeady" to try and change a game... lol

McGeady lacks 1 thing, pace. If he had it he wouldn't have to turn back and beat a man 3 times before he can get his ball across.

I don't buy into the whole Maloney thing either, he win awards when there was no genuinely outstanding players and even at that it was form he never replicated over a number of seasons - 1 season wonder.

McGeady has the most pace on our squad. he has to beat a man 3 times because he is on the wing and has to slow down for players to enter the box, and he is playing on the wrong wing and has to turn to his side to cross the ball with his right foot. i would like to see him on the right.

Im a fan of McGeady, sometimes think he takes a better game coming off the bench, perhaps because players are tiring and it allows him to use his tricks and his lack of pace isnt so much of an issue then. I think he is clever, how often do we see that deffence cutting through ball and he has also developed his game in getting back and deffending. Thought he livened up the game when he came on last night and i also thought that when he came on against spartak. He maybe hasnt been banging in the goals but I think he will develop this part of his game also and become a top class winger.

it's the fact that mcgeady can hold the ball on the wing while players get in the box is what makes him so valuable.

he was once very slow but he has improved his pace over the last year although he is certainly not fast for a winger. The big Caly guy in his 30s Ross Tokely matched his pace plenty times on Saturday. I think he has gotten better each year but only fairly slowly. He is 22 at the end of the season and has had no long term injuries to hamper him. We will judge him then but certainly he has to get end product during next season (when he will pass from 22 to 23) or its over for him.

It is the end product is the key, because he is skillful with the ball but apart from the ICT game this season i don't think he has kicked a ball since Maloney left. We need competition in every position so a player doesn't feel like he deserves the spot. But has he ever just received the ball, taken a touch and swung a cross in. I think you are right, this is his last season. Ronaldo was the same (if somewhat better) and then suddenly he was amazing, we can but hope...

If that were the case we would be in a bad way believe me, he isn't fast in relative terms at all. Like has been said if 30 year old+ veterans of the SPL can match you for pace you have no chance when it comes to the Champions League. Unfortunately natural speed isn't something you can train you either have it or you don't.

unfortunaely its probably true. We have a very slow team. Not one pacey player. The fastest 1st team player is either Aidan or Wilson and neither are really fast at all.
