We need a Alan Subbs type defender (either as cover or for first team). We all know we need LB & RB. Why cant we seem to get these positions right FFS?? Camara springs to mnd when talking about LB & RB costing us games.

The whole defence, and not just the full backs, really need improving on that performance. The goals were comical. McManus totally to blame for me for the first goal. How can anyone blame Brown for a bad ball? It landed right at McManus' feet, he failed to boot it up the park, goal. The second goal, the guy got in ahead of Naylor, difficult header, goal. We need to improve on that type of defending or we will eventually be embarrased in CL.

Without good full back though, the CBs are trying to cover their positions too and getting dragged all over the place.

Even with the disallowed goal, watch McManus totally mis-time his run trying to play the man off-side. It is schoolboy errors. The guy walked through and could have scored himself, chose to pass and the goal was wrongly chalked off.

you mostly are crazy. These players of Shakhtar are very quick and great talent costing millions of Euros. Celtic defence is young and will be greater in time of experience. Don't think too hard on this, many teams will loose more than 2 goal in games at their. Solution is not for DianBobo Balde taking a place.

the defensive problem stemmed form midfield not defense IMO. It was all about midfielders bursting through. We needed much more tracking of runners through the middle and doubling up wide. The cover was abysmal until Hartley was sat in there. With hindsight we need to have an out and out sitter in there against good CL teams away. Hartley or Sno would do. Brown and Donati cannot alone=the central midfield in these games as neither is really defensive minded. We played 4-5-1s against top teams last year so why not tonight??

Couldn't agree with you more Keltoi, except to say that Bobo hasn't played in over 2 years, was terrible for the previous one, why the * would we want that crock back?

Firstly, we don't have a striker to play 4-5-1. None of them are suitable to play that role. Miller would have been ideal. How ironic.

I agree a lot of what happened in the first 10 mins was down to no protection for the defence, however, we must defend better.

The 2 goals lost were a shambles. McManus should have blootered the ball up the park for the first one. No blame on Brown for me.

The second goal, Naylor must get goal side of Lucarelli (spelling).

Even the disallowed goal, McManus was very poor trying to push out trying to play offside against the man on the end of the first pass. Goal should have stood.

Our defence tonight really let us down.

I think that we've got to look at the big picture. This year the Brown/Donati pairing will struggle - next year?

Let's go for the long term - McManus/Caldwell/Balde/Pressley/Whoever - they will bed in in the long run

I know it's being wise after the fact but the bottom line is we gave them far to much room to play in that first twenty minute period. We should have been hassling and harassing them from the start not giving them an inch to play the ball. It should have been obvious that this teams great strength is in attack and that they would have wanted to over run us from the first whistle, we helped them do that by not closing them down quick enough. Our only objective for that first twenty minutes should have been to frustrate the * out of them by stopping them play. After that we could have been a bit more adventurous. I still have no idea what the players were thinking during that first disastrous period of the game or what game plan they were meant to be implementing. That twenty minutes cost us the game. The fault didn't lay with any one player it was their lacklustre attitude in that initial period that cost us.....Balde would have made no difference whatsoever.
