I'll probably be like that by the time the Ajax game rolls around, I'm still angry the now though.

It was a rhetorical question mate. I know you hadn't said we had sacrificed any games to get into the CL. However, the amount of times I see people on here saying "I would rather we lost a wee cup game if it meant........" Which is nonsense, because it doesn't have to be one or the other. I place a higher stock on Europe as well, but we should have enough in our squad to take care of domestic matters, whilst still being competitive in Europe. Obviously there will be the odd upset here and there, it's football, but the one off cup defeats haven't exactly been few and far between in recent years. We have had some real shockers. I do find it hard to blame Deila for the cup exit last year though to Inverness.

You have to take an overall view of his tenure. You can't simply say he beats Malmo and he's a success, he gets beat he isn't. He finishes 1st in his Europa group he's a success, he finishes last he isn't.

There are fine margins in football but the job he's been given isn't just to win everything in sight. It's to develop potential, play a good brand of football and try and win things along the way whilst he's at it.

He's done/doing all 3. Malmo was a boot in the baws but it's a bump in the road rather than the end of it.

Don't know if this is just me but I always thought the final goal, the overall this is your job, was to get the Champions League and to win the League.

His goal every Season is the league.

Lawwell couldn't be clearer any time he speaks though, we as a Club gear our entire operation up to survive without the Champions League. As far as finance is concerned it's a bonus.

That doesn't mean he's not been told in private we have to be there but outwardly anyway it's never been a 'must' as far as the Board are concerned.

That being said with the gap widening between Scottish multimedia revenue right now and everywhere else, European runs will soon become mandatory otherwise we will fall further and further back on a competitive level.

If the CL is a bonus then someone if filtering money out of the club.

CL money has been helping us break even recently.

I meant in footballing terms, not business. Champions League is where we want to be as a club, it's 3 legs to get there, I'd be astonished if a big part of his remit isn't for him to get us there. Maybe not a sackable offence (obviously) but extremely frowned upon that we're out in the footballing wilderness rather than at that level.

That's how I see it. Things like developing youth, playing attractive football, bringing in new talent, new standards in fitness etc are all a means to an end rather than the end itself.

It's all well and good for a coach or scout to be judged on the above. Ultimately though, he is a manager first and has to be judged on results first and foremost. If he gets results then the rest will follow naturally for Ronny imo.

Ronny Deila has said people should not judge him on 'football results alone'. He makes a cracking lasagne, but nobody ever mentions it.
It seems like every sports "banter" page is having a go at Celtic right now

Just because we failed twice in the CL Playoff and then failed again this year after talking ourselves up. Ah well, it's up to us to put a stop to it.

Nope, it was the complete lack of investment that saw us not qualify.

But non-Celtic fans having a joke at our expense are hardly going to thoughtfully consider all contributing factors. What I want is us to prove them wrong by going out and signing several good players who make us a better team.

I like Ronnie - I like his honesty. He was right - the players buckled under the weight of expectation against Malmo. Celtic are a better football team than Malmo - the last min goal at parkhead was the pivotal moment in this draw. It gave Malmo belief and gave us doubt that coloured the second leg. It was unfortunate. I doubt that there's a manager alive that could have changed this scenario - the die was cast.

I like Ronnie better than Lennon, WGS, and MON.
