"You'll never walk alone" is really great on Celtic Park!
Yes, I agreed about Srna! Probably, main Shakhtar's advantages - speed and technics of our middlefielders. If they will receive open space and slightly time to think - Celtic have no chances to stopped them.

But, unfortunately, our defence and keeper is very young and inexperienced, so they can make stupid mistakes, like in game with Chernomorets today :(

Now that Vennegoor played good today, I think we should play this team:

    Boruc

    Wilson--Mcmanus--Caldwell--Naylor

    Hartley

    Naka--Donati--Brown--Mcgeady

    Jvoh

Jvoh will be a greater threat in the air, but Mcdonald is also good at setting up and scoring goals, to be honest I don't know which one is really better the now they are both playing really good.

To be perfectly honest I don't think Big Jan fits well into this kind of formation, the reason for which he hasn't done particularly well in the CL games he's played, apart from the Man UTD away match. I think Skippy would be better equiped if we play this formation, because he helps a * of a lot in midfield aswell.

That's what I was talking about and it's a not a easy decision, maby skippy would be the better option because Jvoh isn't very sharp the now while skippy is.

I'd love it if we'd go for 4-4-2 though, that's when we're at our best, and I think we're too defensive-minded in these away games, we let teams overrun us. It's high time we pushed for a win, and I think there's no better way to do that than playing our strongest team in our strongest formation.

Well the 2 seem to be playin well upfront...more goals have been scored with they 2 the in team than any other partnership in the last few seasons per game ratio....and i doubt we will play a lone striker in the CL, so keep it as it is.

This team worries me more than Spartak. They have better players and I still remember that game in Donetsk a few years back. We were totally beaten by a better side that day. And even at home we did not look like a comfortable winner. With the money they have spent this summer I am sure they will be really tough at home

here is some facts on celtic in CL

    THE LAST MEETING WITH SHAKHTAR

The lineups for the match were:

Shakhtar - Jan Laštuvka; Flavius Stoican, Cosmin Barcauan, Mariusz Lewandowski, Razvan Rat; Andriy Vorobey (Brandão), Anatoliy Tymoschuk, Matuzalem; Zvonimir Vukić; Julius Agahowa (Darijo Srna), Ciprian Marica (Igor Duljaj)

Celtic - David Marshall; Didier Agathe, Stanislav Varga, Dianbobo Balde, Jackie McNamara (Stephen McManus); Stilian Petrov, Neil Lennon, Chris Sutton, Juninho Paulista (Aiden McGeady); John Hartson, Henri Camara.

    • Six Shakhtar players in action that day are still at the club – Brandão, Duljaj, Lewandowski, Rat, Srna and Vukić – but only three from that Celtic side remain – Balde, McGeady and McManus.

    • Celtic won the return 1-0 – only their second victory in eight past meetings with Ukrainian opposition.

    • Celtic reached the first knockout round of last season's competition thanks to their formidable home form. They won all three home games in the group stage while losing every match outside Celtic Park. In the first knockout round, an extra-time Kaká strike at San Siro consigned them to a 1-0 aggregate defeat by Milan.

    • Those four away defeats in last term's competition mean Celtic have lost 12 of 13 previous away matches in the UEFA Champions League.

    • Shakhtar lost fewer games than Celtic in the 2006/07 group stage – only two and both away from home – but the fact they only won once, a 1-0 home success against AS Roma, consigned them to third place in their section.

    • They duly stepped into the UEFA Cup where their hopes were extinguished in the Round of 16 by eventual winners Sevilla FC, who won 3-2 in Donetsk after a 2-2 draw in Spain.

So 0 of our starting line up will be playing this time, quite a drastic change

I think Rat, Srna and Duljaj will play from the first minutes and Brandao from substitute. May be, we can see Lewandowski, but Vukic will not play almost 100%, cause we have better playmakers, like Fernandinho, Jadson, Castillo.

I've been looking for a video of shakhtar, got one just under 4minutes here of their qualifier against red bull salzburg. Red Bull won the home leg 1-0.. They went over to shakhtar and scored first, then lucarelli got the equaliser with a typical strikers goal poaching in the penalty spot/6yard area. They went 2-1 up with a penalty by castillo - well taken.. Then 3-1 with a header by Brandao.. I only have the video of the first leg which red bull won 1-0. I just wanted too see what the look of their side is like and I can't help but think the chances been made and gaps that are open in the shakhtars backline, they do look vulnerable.

If Red Bull can create chances like this against them albeit they were at home surely we can cause more harm. Im pretty confident about this away leg especially after the way weve been playing domestically and weve drawn our last 2 away games in the champions league against better teams. ( ok AC Milan won in extra time but that doesn't count ;) ). Not only that, Mick has been playing exceptional so far and Caldwell isn't doing anything wrong himself, and i don't have to say anything about the Holy Goalie. Just hope our bhoys perform on the night and keep it tight and soak up the pressure when shakhtar are attacking because they will attack and i expect them to have much of the ball. Can see us winning if we take our chances which by the looks of things we will create many of.

Hail Hail.. cant wait for this !!!!!!!!!!

I would gladly be happy with a draw but a win would be great, the 4-5-1 formation does sound tempting but id rather see a 4-4-2 being played as we are an attacking side.

    Boruc

    Wilson--Caldwell--McManus--Naylor

    Nakamura--Donati--Brown--McGeady

    Hesselink

    McDonald

Yeh that's what i can't choose either lol 4-5-1 or 4-4-2.. I was thinking a 4-5-1 because they have pacey wingers and we could do with an extra body in midfield and id like their playmakers like castillo to be roughed up and show him alot of physical pressure as he seems pretty lightweight! So wouldnt mind the likes of Hartley in that holding midfield role.

Yeah that does sound good tatics, but if we play a 4-5-1 GS first choice striker would probably be Hesselink and hes only really a big danger with crosses, so Nakamura and McGeady will have to make good ball delivery on the night, i feel we play better football along the ground than big punts up the pitch to the 1 man striker, id rather like to see a 4-4-2 and Hesselink sitting in just behind McDonald and Donati doing the holding midfield role.

I can explain Keltoi) 'The Ukraine' is incorrect but widespread...it comes from past times of USSR, when we were one of soviet republics it was with 'the' but since 1991 when become independent country no articles should be used

could we possibly be more prepared or on form for this match??? I think this is the time we get our first away win. We can't be too defensive this match because I don't think our defence can take the pressure.
