Isn't him mumbling (almost inaudibly to me) the word acknowledging that it's unacceptable? It was a stupid attempt at a joke but I don't for a minute think he's racist.

He's not a racist in my opinion, but you have to take into account the position he holds and the scrutiny he's under. He knows that he'll be held to a higher level than Joe Soap down the street, and he's rewarded very well financially for doing so.

I personally didn't think it was clear enough to make a judgement, but if he's admitted it, and admitted he was wrong then fair play to him.

I don't think he should be sacked over it.

He doesn't appear to have said it in the Video, but it was pretty well known beforehand that he is a racist *

Hes not a racist * sake ...he just an * that used racial humour and people where offended by it...he didn't call anyone specifically a N.....

Clarksons problem is he attempts to be funny using a dark comedians humour (Frankie boyle)....but clarkson is mainstream TV and cant get away with it....

People just don't like him so jump on the bandwagon as soon as he opens his mouth...and not that's its right Ive heard far worse from people that say they aint racist either....hes just a plum here

As james May stated "if he was a racist he wouldn't work with him"....Clarkson has worked with many people and not one I know of has called him a racist

remember its the papers and media sites that go for him and others

Would rather the media actually concentrated on proper news rather than wall to wall phone ins on this, all I know is that he was clearly an idiot for using or even inferring that type of language in the current climate but he is clearly that arrogant and feels so indispensable to the BBC that he can do what he pleases with no comebacks.

Never saw the attraction of him and those other public school boys he works with anyway in that Top Gear programme playing games

To be fair Jeremy wasn't calling anyone in particular a *, as opposed to Leigh who was referring to Rudi Skacel.....

In saying that I don't believe either are racists, although I see what Clarkson did as more harmless than what Griffiths did.

    100%

And not only is it irritating and a bit sad, but it actually hides very serious issues around genuine discrimination.

    He won't be sacked, and has instead been given a "final warning";

"In a Twitter post Ms Harman said: "Anybody who uses the N-word in public or private in whatever context has no place in the British Broadcasting Corporation."
    ---

Yes, Miss Harman. And arguably anyone with however tenuous links to a paedo exchange raised by a right-wing rag, shouldn't be in government, just a screams of "racist" from a lefty rag should lead to a BBC presenter being sacked?

Also, if I declare my offence loudly enough at Harman's dodgy expenses claims and then her move to block forced repayments being made public, would she lose her job?

Sensible conclusion from the BBC. All these political creeps making their voices heard over the subject are just as bad as those screaming "racist".

The thing is Clarkson thrives of the noteriety. The more controversial he is, the more he is talked about. The problem is he is doing it more and and the line of decency is being blurred. But let's not forget, he has cultivated that image. It sells Top Gear, the producers actively encourage him to opinionated and controversial. Is he a supporter of Mosely and the like, probably not. Does he deliberately troll? Yes. Personally, I'm not a fan - I used to like Top Gear, but now it's rather predictable. A bunch of middle class middle aged men in jeans trying to get reactions. Clarkson is the epitome of the 'little Englander' attitude. Unfortunately for him, his idea of an innocuous piece to camera turned out to be rather more serious than he thought.

Someome has leaked the rushes to the Mirror. None of the three versions were broadcast, so someone has it in for him.

Clarkson's wasn't aimed at anyone. He also never really said it.

He also didn't tell anyone to go back to their own country on twitter. Why even bring the Griffiths argument into it.

If you sing along to a rap song in your house saying all the words does that make you a racist?
