good on the big man! maybe with him getting England recognition he'll realize he doesn't need to be playing the EPL to be an international player.

Aye, I forgot about Barkley when saying what I wold pick for England earlier. He should start.

    Hart
    Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines
    Gerrard Henderson
    Sterling Barkley Lallana
    Sturridge

Lallana is a decent creative player but doesnt really have the pace either. Ideally they'd probably have wanted Walcott to have been fit or Chamberlain.

Great bit of business tying down Izzy before the world cup..

Even tonight if he wasn't signed up the English clubs would have been circling and a couple making enquiries..

Barkley looked very bright again when coming on. Hopefully Roy will start with him over Rooney. Wilshere looked far better than he did against Ecuador also which is extremely encouraging, although he certainly couldn't have been worse.

I assume Sterling will slot into the side on the left wing ahead of Welbeck. All reports suggest he has been in top form in training and its clear for all to see that he's a world class player in the making anyway.

A week to go until our first group game at a world cup in the spiritual home of football. I don't have many expectations but world cup fever has taken hold and I can't wait!

Oh well. There's nothing that can be done about that so! I shall not worry. :smiley-laughing002:

Positive news on Oxlade-Chamberlain too. He's expected to be fit according to Roy. Coming through this final friendly without losing anybody else is a big positive too after seeing the horrible looking ankle injury Reus picked up yesterday.

The rate at which players have dropping out of this world cup through injury has been as extraordinary as it has been disappointing.

    You didn't bite:38:

Your there, so why not enjoy it, if it was us i would be..
I think you have good players but not a good.enough team, i also think England will deal with the conditions worse than Italy answer certainly uruguay and Costa Rica..

You were lucky to come away unscathed tonight, chamberlain is a boost, they did only say he'll make the tournament, i reckon he won't make Italy still..

It's * when the top teams lose there top men, that 's reus and ribery now gone and probably be more out there..

Yeah I agree. Baines in particular seemed to take a battering tonight which had me and the friends I watched it with holding our breath on several occasions. If he picked up a knock we would end up with Shaw and Johnson as fullbacks. Bad, bad things would happen.

I think this world cup is two years too early for England to have any real expectation of progressing into the business end of a tournament. Barkley, Sterling, Ox, Henderson, Wilshere etc are all clearly very talented but that alone counts for little, and certainly you cannot expect to field a core of players with an average age of about 21 and expect to do anything special. Another couple of years developing in the premiership and playing together in euro qualifiers and we shall see.

The likes of Italy and Uruguay are equally as talented, but they have the guile and experience to match which I expect will see them both through the group.

Anyway, I have Colombia and Australia in my uni sweepstake so my loyalties are very much split :smiley-laughing002:

Well I put on Messi top goal scorer and Argentiana to win 16/1

Then also Ronaldo top goal scorer and Spain to win :50: the odds were like 50/1 cant remember

but pretty good, looking forward to seeing what unfolds.

Johnson is definitely seen as a weak link and with good reason, he's been targeted overtime i've watched and England game and always get caught out pf position or with ball in behind him, same with baines but to a slightly lesser extent, i actually don't rate hint too highly.. Definitely weakest at the back ..

I think you have the makings of a good side in years to come.but then again that's usually the case but you always seem to manage to flop, set up.wise and mentality wise when it gets to the crunch you fail miserably..

I think all your group games will be tight but i reckon you'll finish third..

I didn't watch the game last night, but read the match reports and some of the comments here. So maybe I'm not the best person to be commenting on this, but I will anyway :icon_mrgreen:

I was on the World Cup page on the BBC site when I saw an article with a picture of Henderson having a go a Izaguirre. So I decided to go ahead and read the article. Now this could just be me, but this whole article seemed completely and utterly ridiculous. To give you a better idea of what I'm going on about, I'll quote part of the article here (Here's the whole thing for anyone interested)
