I said we're not exclusively an Irish club, that's what I always meant. I know we obviously have Irish links. That's why I chose the 'Scottish club with Irish links' option on the poll we had about a year or two ago.

as a scot living in ireland for about 3 years now, i have found that if you ask an irish person, which football team they support, its either Man utd, liverpool, arsenal or spurs. very rarely does anyone say celtic, but when i get asked, its always "im guessing your a celtic supporter?". have found that strange.
my son is only about 10 weeks old, but as soon as he's old enough, i'll be taking him to as many celtic games as i can:50:

You didn't use the word exclusively once. You said we aren't an Irish club at all. That's a direct quote btw.

Just admit you were talking out of your * and we can all get back to El Classico.

Shouldn't you make some kind of beeping noise when you're reversing this quickly? :smiley-laughing002:

To be fair, your posts are getting more sensible by the minute, maybe this won't go nuclear after all. :50:

The only reason I posted was because people were saying we're an Irish club again. I wouldn't have bothered if people were saying we're Irish and Scottish, or Scottish with Irish links. Admittedly yea, saying we're not an Irish club at all looks like I'm disputing our heritage but trust me I wasn't, I was disputing the only being Irish part.

Henceforth we should try harder then. Change our kit to red, our name to maybe Magners' or Nike Celtic. All very good ideas.

I use magners/nike Celtic as they sponsor us. But it would bring in more money from these companies but it would demonstrate to business community we are willing to adapt.

ADAPT OR DIE. As the saying goes.

"We're an Irish club". This is what I have an issue with. Think Random Review posted it, there might have been another, if not you see it weekly anyway.

    Good post.:50:
I think you have to look at the context for the original statement, mate. In context, it was the Irish part of our identity that was relevant and so that was what was mentioned. I don't think anyone was claiming that we were exclusively Irish (if they were, they were wrong), though I can see why you might have taken it this way. FWIW in spite of my joke about "beeping noises", I'm really impressed to see you admit this above. :50:

Read my post again, mate. I said we're Irish because we're both. We actually agree on this. :50:

You know what I mean, don't be facetious. We're Scottish predominantly so you can't say, we're an Irish club, that's my point.

Is that some sort of riddle?

So we're an Irish club but we can't say we are?

Couldn't even be annoyed with you anymore mate you're talking that much *.

Cool, well this whole discussion has been even more pointless than it usually is. When people say that, I presume they mean just an Irish club. Which is what I dispute.

    * it, some people can't see what I'm getting at.

Oh *, now that you've agreed we're both you want to argue about what percentage of each we are? :smiley-laughing002: That way lies insanity, mate.

In the original context he can say we're an Irish club without implying "exclusively Irish" because it's the Irish part of our identity that was relevant to what he was trying to say. Honestly, mate, I think you just got the wrong end of the stick. Had you read the full thread? If you only started on that page, I can see why you misunderstood.

Following his posts to their logical conclusion. I think he is saying we are not a Scottish club.

I get you. I think some people in certain contexts might mean that when they say we're Irish; mostly that's not what most of us mean at all, though. It was an interesting argument for me, though. I never realised that's how some people read the assertion that we're Irish. So we both learned something here (so not pointless at all). :celt_2:
