Thats what Alex McLeish said on Setanta. Its always pretty important but when both of the old firm are much stronger than the rest then its especially true. I think that is the case this year with Hearts and Hibs having sold their best. Basically means very few points will be dropped by both of us and the Old Firm games will be vital.

i agree totally just shows that the teams in our league arent as fit as us and them hun * so i can see very strong old firm showdowns this year. These old firms will decide who wins the spl but IMO i know who that is already.:celt_2::shamrock::celt_2:

100% agree. It's not that we should be in any danger of losing the league as we are the stronger team by a mile, but they have lifted themselves out of the other 10 teams and now are depending on results against us (unlike last season where they were part of a group of eleven * teams)

They will challenge, but as long as we pay attention and give sufficient respect to them, it will be the same result

We have to be 100% for every game we cannot be lazy and fall in to a trap ..We should have a big enough squad to cope with everything :50:

Dont think they will be anymore important than previosu years, as always the winners will have the advantage but i think the league will boil down to who can avoid dropping points to the wee teams in the league , i.e Away to well, gretna, falkirk, ict, kille

Point is if both teams are far stronger than the rest then neither may drop hardly any points so it will be largely the old firm games that will seperate us. It was like that in the last 2 years of the Tommy Burns era. Its a while since the old firm looked so much further ahead than the rest as they do this season.

Have a feeling Rangers would beat us right now but that wont be true in a few weeks. The kind of football we are trying to play is pretty elaborate fast passing game with a lot of one touch stuff. You can see that in the periods of the last few games where it comes together. That sort of game takes longer to totally come together as a team than the meat and potatoes power stuf Rangers are playing. We should be OK as the first Old Firm is not for a while and I think we should be flying by then.

A lot of people are saying there are parallels now to the MON 1st season when Advocaats more technical passing team was blown away by MON's power team. I dont agree with that cause Rangers do not have real quality of the likes of Henke, Lubo, Lambo, Petrov, Sutton etc and Celtic's secret was a combination of power and quality.

yip it looks like we are heading back to what it was like in the 203 season I think where all the other teams had no chance since day one.

But hibs are looking good this season, they might come third.

Well i would argue that European football (assuming they also get through) will take its toll on SPL performances this season but we are in a better position with the size of the squad we have. Neither Celtic or them should discount any other spl team as every team raises thier game against us as if it was a cup final.

maybe the league title will come down to the old firm matches, i hope not, i would love another green & white wash though!

First game at Ibrox will be crucial we must avoid defeat . Personally i am not scared one bit about going there . Carlos Cuellar is not Carles Puyol as some sections of the Scottish Media would have you think . And As this is Monday i wouldn't be surprised if his partner Davie Weir was down his local Post Office collecting his pension . Alan Hutton thinks hes Rocky and will get put in his place by Scotty Brown . Darcheville will lose the plot in the heat of an Old Firm game and will make it easier for us . And we cant forget they still have.....Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeebo !!

Nah, it's losing to lesser sides in the spl that lose it imo, of course if rangers do pose to be a bigger threat than least season (how could they not, really?) then its of more importance but i still dont think its crucial. Only for our pride :)

I kinda disagree...Rangers will bottle it mid-season for serveral reasons:
    1. Too many OAP - Weir, Ehiogu, Cousins, Darchveille...
    2. Our squad is much better and bigger plus we have some versatile players here. Sno could easily act as a centre back if called upon, most of our strikers can play in midfield (Skippy, Riordan, Miller)
    3. WGS have better youngster at CP to act as cover
    4. We have Naka, so even if we play crap, he can score a freekick in stoppage time ..... e.g. vs Killie (championship winning game)
    5. We have best goalie in country (by far - especially now Gordon has gone south)
    6. We will most likely qualify for CL group stages meaning more money and more players to come
    7. We made a profit last year and reduce our debt, so we are financially more secure than the Huns
    8. We signed Broon and they did not
    9. Rangers depend too much on Barry Ferguson, he plays *, they play *. Oh, and sooner or later he's gonna be playin * again
    10. Burke will be injured again, come back and then injured again
    11. Walter signed average players this summer, adding average to an already average team is bad enough. There are no really stars or world class players. We have Boruc, Naka and Donati who are class. Then Mick and Broon, JvOH and McGeady who are really quality players.

OK, I will stop there , at this rate I run till 100 and still have plenty to say. Basically in my opinion Rangers are no stronger this season than they were last season. Only player I really not seen much is Beasley. But then again Torbinsky of Spartak was a pacy winger and we dealt with him perfectly fine in Moscow. McCullogh, Broadfoot, Gow, Darcheville, Cousins are all average players. Stupid Walter also signer 3 left footed midfielders lol. All are not as good as Hartley (from last season, not reformed Hartley).

Also I think Hibernian, Dundee Utd and Aberdeen are quite decent this season. Away from home, we will have to be careful

Wot * Me off last season is that they won the 1st Old Firm of the Nu Smith era, which I felt gave rangers back some confidence because Im pretty if We wud ave Won We wudda kept the psychological edge over them and I feel if We Win the 1st 1@ipox this season We can regain the Psychological edge and show walter No this time its personal We wont B bullied by You We're ganna fight.
