Stop and search by the police in public what do you think about it.
Is it a good thing and needed or is it out of order and leading us to a police state.

Only if used correctly (which it never will be). It will basically harass far too many folk for nothing. If it can indeed reduce knife crime and the likes then fine, but there is already procedures in place for such offences

Never mind that the police as an origination are incredibly racist, and love a bit of racial profiling.

I didn't vote because I'm not Scottish. I'll leave it up to you all to see if this is something you want in YOUR country.

But I am against this practice as a whole in America. Its not so much for cleaning up the streets as it is conditioning you to live in a police state where you have no rights and the police can just rough you up and/or search you whenever and wherever they please.

In the USA they do this, its called Stop and Frisk, or Sobriety Checkpoints. Its completely unconstitutional. The fourth amendment of the Constitution protects us against unreasonable searches and seizures.

The exact text is: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized

Pretty straight-forward. This * is obviously illegal in America. There's a major movement against it. This is the kind of crap you're supposed to see in countries like East Germany or the Soviet Union. Not here in America.

    Maybe in London.

In Scotland they tend to just harass teenagers and young adults.

Is it incredibly racist in Newcastle,Liverpool, all over Yorkshire?

I've been stopped and searched a few times over the years and most of the people around my area have had the same experience, many white aswell..

Myself i don't have a problem with it,if it gets knifes off the streets its a good thing.

Scottish police harass more than their English counterparts. They harass the young in the main, but it would be naive to think they don't harass minority communities here.

    Yes.

"Black people are 26 times more likely than white people to be stopped and searched by police in England and Wales, the most glaring example of "racial profiling" researchers have seen, according to an international report."

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/oc...h-race-figures

This comes after a similar Guardian article (albeit one with a correction) on the crazy levels of black people imprisoned in the UK.

I've been stopped and searched before and I'm white, but what is your point? If your white in England your not safe from the police but your a lot less likely to be stopped by the police than a black person.

Only if used correctly, not sure about Scotland but in England it's used to discriminate against certain people and that's a fact.

To say they don't discriminate is not what I'm saying,it obviously goes on..
But my point is it happens to mainly young kids up and down the country of all races every single day..

When i was about 8 in the 1970's my granddad gave me a penknife one of those small ones with a tartan handle and the blade was about 2inch long that folded away.
I had it out in a park and cutting my name into a tree(as you do),when some lad seen me and went running half way across the park and reported me to some cops.
These two cops came over and took the knife off me and dragged my young * home and gave my mum the knife and then gave her a right telling off.
My mum then gave my poor granddad * for weeks.
In his defence he worked on fishing boats all his life and always had a knife about his person.
That was my only experience of stop and search in life.:smiley-laughing002:

But the evidence doesn't show that. It shows that the police disproportionately go after black and asian people. Young people are the most likely white people to be harassed but if your say, young and black then your doubly *.

I depends how the police use it.

I haven't been stopped and searched before but if I was I wouldn't really mind if they had reason to do it.

As regards profiling, I don't really have an issue with it. I have been searched coming through customs a couple of times coming back to the country from lads holidays. I have never been stopped and searched coming back from any other trip. And that is because it makes sense to search people like me in that instance for drugs compared to an old retired couple coming back from the South of France. It is just common sense as long as it is done properly.
