Bit of a weird one and probably a weirdly worded question.

However, give me a year/rough estimate/era when you believe football became 'modernised', 'sanitised' and a totally different game to what it used to be - in the 'good old days'.

For me, to be specific, I would say 2005. After the 2004-05 season, it just felt as if the EPL finances rocketed, top teams like Real, Milan, Bayern and Barca also solidified their riches.

Players were becoming more picky with their club choices and looked down on certain leagues (such as our) and would only go to less fashionable leagues for unreal amounts of money.

The fans of clubs were become more sanitised, there was no longer an 'old fashioned' feel to the game - it felt truly global and commercialised. Big clubs like ourselves, the Dutch and Portuguese clubs were seen as lesser in our significance, in comparison to EPL teams and what not.

I always thought it was when the Italian style of play and Catenaccio football became the norm with European teams in the late 60s/1970s.

When they changed The European Cup into the Champions League, the rich were about to become a whole lot richer.
Also, when they introduced all seated stadiums, giving clubs the incentive to push up the price of tickets etc, trying to entice a higher class of clientele.......what the * were they thinking.

I don't think they had a choice but to make stadiums all seated after hillsborough.

Yeah, I understand that and rightly so, I was more * of at the way the clubs then seen that as a chance to increase their prices, forcing good supporters to call it a day as they could no longer afford to go and support their team.

The creation of the champions league + premiership + sky sports = creation of modern football. I'm sure if you ask a footballer from the 80's, he'll claim he just missed the gravy train

Yeah, the Sky Sports Premier League deal and change on European Cup into Champions League all in quick succession made the change. Most footballers now are filthy rich from the time they're 16/17, they have no idea what it's like to be a regular person.

When we were priced out of signing players by the bottom clubs of the English Premiership. The top 6 or 7 clubs I could just about understand but the TV money and rich foreign owner money going into * non-entities like Stoke and Hull was definitely the biggest sign that things were irredeemably *.

It's hard to pin point. You could say when David Murray entered Scottish football. He introduced season ticket, mercenary and big spending culture. 1992 is also a pivotal year given that's when big television contracts started to be introduced in England. However, the turning point for me was 1996 when Bosman ruling was implemented. This meant there was no restriction on EU players a team could field. It hugely favoured players over clubs, and favoured only the very biggest clubs. Given they could free up money that would ordinarily be spent on transfer fees, and use additional money to increase the wage they could offer.

When they changed the camera angle during matches from close up to miles away.

Watch any game from the 60s up until the mid 90s and the camera that they use is mostly pitch side.
