I liked West Brom too, not anymore. Obviously Steve Clarke isn't a big enough name for the Premier League... fannies.

Vastly overachieved with them last year and lost a few of their top players. Even though they had cash, they struggled to replace their stars. It sounds familiar.

Seriously, though, he is really unlucky. The very nature of the Director of Football structure at WBA is that the manager is, ultimately, dispensible and the club doesn't really change.

Also worth pointing out the outcry at Southampton when Adkins left.

As for Clarke, absolutely shocking decision... he was doing an alright job too.

Doesn't seem all that surprising or harsh to me.

It's just the nature of football down there these days. There is so much money involved, and delusions of grandeur. That all clubs are expected to constantly bring in primed and ready made players, which means bringing in foreign talent and ignoring youth setup. Looking at the budgets in the EPL, Clarke has been sacked despite achieving exactly what any analyst would expect.

 

Heard the baggy fans hated Clarke. No sure what he actually did wrong though.

 

Always thought he was destined for big things during his time at Chelsea.

If Lenny thought his time was up I would take him in a heartbeat.

 

I had a quick scan of their forums earlier. They've won 5 of their last 34 league games and just hoof it up to Long apparently, even though they say the have the players to play much better football.

A lot of the names being banded about as potential replacements are * embarrassing. Steve Kean, Stuart Pearce, Michael Appleton etc. Someone suggested Benitez Why work with Higuain when you can work with Victor Anichebe.

The main criteria for most seems to be a manager who "plays football the right way". They must have forgotten that the vast majority of their recent history has involved them being a * yo-yo club.
