That would be amusing. He'll then be refused a passport in the new Independent Scotland for being a traitor.

That's the thing I don't think that he is........he's well known for his Scots Pride  He's prob just a young guy who can't be ersed with politics and whatever and just wants to enjoy his tennis. He has fans on both sides of the border and it would make life difficult to take any particular stance. I would have thought more of him if he had refused it but I can well understand why he didn't and I don't hold it against him.

I certainly wouldn't turn down one of these honours tbh and neither have many important figures in Celtic's past like Stein, McNeill, Larsson and O'Neill

Jock Stein had already passed away before he got any sort of recognition so he never accepted it.

Well i think thats the case anyway.

I'm think he was awarded the CBE when he was at Celtic.

These sorts of awards exist in every country. I think people get too hung up on it... good for him.

Nah, not really. There's a difference than being awarded by the state or the government of your country rather than royalty. Although countries with royals will have awards like this, I disagree with royalty altogether, so I just wouldn't accept it.

Stein was awarded the CBE, that is obvious recognition. He should probably have got a knighthood though.

Aye, was more talking about 'peerage'. Sir Matt Busby and all getting one for winning the European Cup as the first English Team.

Still though, I go back to my initial point, I'd tell them to shove it.

He WAS in line for a Knighthood as he was nominated for it because of the way Celtic won the European cup.
He didn't get it because of what happened between Celtic and River Plate at the Battle of Montivideo.

I called them about a year and a half ago and the honours committee said that they don't award them retrospectively yet they did it for some * englishman.
    Can't remember who

Really? That is a * shame, he was far more deserving of a knighthood than others but one game affected that :31:

PS: It was Racing Club, not River Plate pedantic I know :smiley-laughing002:
