The ref let some other challenges go without even giving a foul. Some other challenges I thought would get a yellow also got nothing.

For the sudden change in behaviour, I can only assume that the ref thought Nir had caught the guy.

The red card wasn't consistent with how he refereed the rest of the game.

Really want to see it again, anyone know where I can watch highlights or at least a clip of this incident?

In the stadium I think a lot of us thought it probably was a red, just because of the way the guy went down and the speed and recklessness of the challenge.

Was pretty annoyed at Biton, 2-0 up and cruising there no need to go flying in like that on the halfway line.

If Serero's leg had been planted, then it was a potential leg breaker. I've no qualms about the decision, and I can see why the ref seen it a s red.

A straight red for me unfortunately. It was a tackle that didn't need to be made either, making it even more unfortunate.

It was a red , sliding in with studs showing always going to get a card , a red one in this case was merited ....if the shoe was on the other foot then we would have been saying red card :50:

If the guy had his foot planted to the ground the tackle was a potential leg breaker. Fully deserved a red

    Nope.

I've watched it a few more times there - I still say yellow (that would go if it was an opposition player also).

Contrary to popular belief, football has the same set of rules whether we're playing Hibs or Ajax.

It was mistimed and silly. It wasn't malicious, 2 footed or aggressive. No one would have batted an eyelid at a booking, which it was.

Any other day it's a yellow, he didnt make contact and the guy went for the swan dive!! But same token just on the park why feel the need to lunge in and not stay on his feet.

Lennon is saying merited a red, I believe - I don't think so personally. Thought it was borderline, but that a yellow card would have been the right call.

I would also have said that if it was one of them as well, as an aside.

Was still a * stupid challenge though.

Still not sure. But thank * it was late on, think we would of added a third with 11 men on the pitch though :celt_2:

Red or not it was a stupid challenge to make in the middle of the pitch.

People seemed to be surprised last night when he was shown red.

If you lunge in at a challenge like that, you're asking the referee a question. It was no surprise to me when I seen him give a red card.

I also feel like this will be a big setback for Bitons career here. I was quite excited about him and have wanted to see him play. But after that I cant help but feel that hes been put a few steps back and has damaged his chances of getting a few starts. Lennon looked very dissapointed in him as well.

He can be no more disappointed than he was with Brown, who he defended to be fair. Although it was a silly challenge to make when we are 2 up, at least it was for a tackle and not a petulant little kick out.

Never a sending off. The ref was letting stuff go all night and then he pulls the red out for that

Having re-watched it, he threw himself in at speed, with his studs showing and he was not in control. He can have no complaints about being shown the red, contact or not.

Malicious? Not. In Croatia, from where the referee is, I've seen these tackles cause no cards at all, if there was no injuries inflicted. A red card is given for really malicious fouls. Don't know what was the ref thinking last night.
