Totally agree with everything commons has said there, I haven't given up hope on finnbogason or pukki and I do believe we will qualify with the squad we have and Lennon sort us out with a few signings fit for coming straight into the team as soon as he can!

    IN LENNON WE TRUST

Had Heerenven in a coupon yesterday so intermittently watched their game. Alfie scored the opener, which I missed, but I really liked the look of him. Pretty much reminded me of Hooper in terms of positioning and generally the way he played (shoulder of the last defender, steal a yard on them)

He definitely looked like one of the best on the park. Didn't get too many chances as Heerenven were pish (beat 4-2) but always looked a threat.

Even on that slender bit of evidence I would splash the cash, it's easy to look great when your teams playing well and your winning, he looked great when his team were *.

Interesting that he grabbed goals even though they got beat, always like forwards that are consistent scorers even during a defeat.

I don't know where people have gotten this idea that no one's ever seen him play. :smiley-laughing002: I watch Eredivisie highlights on ESPN & the odd Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord game (each of them obviously play again Heerenveen twice a season) if there's no Celtic game on. I'm not saying everyone does but it probably receives the most interest outside of the top 4 or 5 leagues in Europe, especially in the second half of the season when there's normally at least three sides in contention for the title. The quality of football on show in the top half is excellent. There's also a few Dutch guys on the forum & Finnbogason's also a full international player.

Have you seen him play outside of highlights then?

Finnbogason isn't signing. I think you're all deluded to think we can offer £6million for starters. Don't even think they'd take that to be honest. Contracted for 2 seasons, with a years extension - the way he's scoring they have a £10million player on their hands and they know it.

Think about it, would we sell Hooper if he was contracted up until 2015, for £6million?
    No we wouldn't.

This guys way better than Hooper.

I've seen him play ~90 minutes three times, I think. Twice last season (vs Feyenoord & vs Vitesse or VVV - not sure; scored in both) and once this season after he was linked to Celtic (vs AZ; hit a brace). He was a stand out in all three. I know there's a lot of hype around him but I think it's warranted. I know I'm basing this on three games & highlights which will only show the positive aspects of his play but I think he'd be the best forward at the club since Larsson. And his stats speak for themselves. He's a similar age to Henrik when he joined the club and he's played at a similar level throughout his career. He has a higher goals to games ratio than Henrik did at his age. I'm not saying he'll be nearly as good - you can't replicate genius - but the signs of a top class striker are there.

I don't think we'll get him though. I'd be just as happy with Pukki but that's looking less and less likely now.

If it was up to you our team would be Aberdeen standard, where's your ambitions?I think most people realize this guy won't be coming to the club because we won't spend £6mil on him so get off your high horse.

Alfie is a great player, but to say that "He is way better then Hooper" is just very wrong. He's done nothing to be better then Hooper. Not even played Europa League football(?)

All i'm saying is forget about this guy, it's not happening, he's gonna go for big, big money. Money we don't have.

We tried, we failed and we wasted too much time on this move already.

4 goals in 3 games so far for Heerenveen. Van Basten has set up a deal with AC Milan and Van Basten has told the board not to sell him just yet. They can hardly go behind his back and risk losing the manager too.

The player himself has come out and said he's bored with changing club every season.

Hooper left and we still have umpteen strikers to choose from. The squad should be good enough to get through to the champions league group and win the league.

There's no point getting all fixated on one player. That's the main reason we haven't got a replacement for Hooper yet. We waited for Heerenveen to get a new board together, the new board hiked the price up. That's the way it goes.

We were closing in on another player that fell through, we agree terms with another club, the player says, * that *. Does nobody see an emerging pattern here?

Sure, we should aim high, but if it a'int happening we need to scale back very quickly and this is what's happening right now. We're working our way down this mythical list of players and we go down and down and down the list until we find a deal that is likely to happen. Quite when it happens nobody knows, but it will at some point.

We might even unearth a player better than Finnbogason, looks unlikely, but you never know.

    Do we though?

Stokes - good player but hes wasted upfront on his own. He needs a partner.

Samaras - good player but wasted upfront too. He plays better on the left.

Watt - Good prospect but is he going to get us 20/30 goals a season? doubt it.

Balde - He could be great or he could be *. We dont know yet so its too risky to rely on him.

Now what if we lose two of them to injury? Then we are *!! Dont kid yourself mate we need a striker ......NOW!!

Of course we do. We needed one back in January. We got Balde and Boerigter. It's a start.

your right, coulld be risky. Same way it could still be risky throwing in a guy that just arrived. I think balde n stokes can get us through the group stages in a 4-4-2 but Lennon will go with a 4-4-1-1 with commons behind either stokes or balde.

    Boerrigter isn't a striker.

Currently we have Stokes, Balde and Watt. Sammy isn't a striker now.

Stokes - Good but yet to really get much of a chance in Europe.
Balde - We don't know how good or bad he is.
Watt - Not good enough, at least for Europe anyway.

he's a winger mate. He's versatile but he is prodomently a left mid.

*, the whole reason I replied to him was to say he isn't a striker and I still * it up:smiley-laughing002:

Left mid or right mid, but from the highlights of Ross County he was playing up front as a striker with Stokes.

Sammy and Stokes will get the nod i'd imagine.

He played left wing in a 4231 against County.
