Naismith rules out Celtic & Rangers

Kilmarnock striker Steven Naismith says he would prefer to stay at Rugby Park than sit on the bench at one of the Old Firm clubs. The 20-year-old has been linked with Celtic and Rangers, with the Ibrox club having a £400,000 offer rejected.

"I don't want to go to a team where I'm not going to play every week," the SPFA Young Player of the Year said.
"It would be a step back if I was to go to a team where I would be sitting on the bench or not even involved."

Naismith scored 19 goals for the Rugby Park outfit last season and is in no rush to leave the Ayrshire club.

"I believe in my ability and, no matter what the team, if I go there, I'm thinking that I'll be able to play every week," he said.

"If I'm good enough in training, I would expect to be playing every week.

"I'm not going to sit here and say 'I want to move to Rangers' or 'I want to move to Celtic' because that's not the case.

"The move needs to be right for me and everybody around me."

Naismith said, if the club accepted an offer for him, he would prefer any deal to be concluded before he returns for pre-season training.
The striker spent a couple of days on trial at English Premier League outfit Arsenal last season and he would not rule out a move to England.
"I'm quite a homely guy and, to be honest, I don't think the time is right," said Naismith.

"I've only been playing professional football in the SPL for two seasons. It's hardly a lot of experience.
"England is one of the best leagues in the world and one of the hardest, so I would definitely consider it in the future."
Meanwhile, defender Gordon Greer, who is out of contract at Kilmarnock, does not rule out a return to Rugby Park.

Greer, who wants to move south of the border for family reasons, is mulling over offers from Oldham Athletic, Darlington and Rotherham United.
"I just got married and my wife, Amy, would prefer to move to be nearer her family," he told The Sun.

"I would like to play in England again anyway. Oldham is an option.
"But, as it stands, I am going to wait and see if anything else develops. I haven't ruled out signing a new contract with Kilmarnock."

Oh well. Would have been a waste of money for another bench player. Just hope the Rangers do not get him!

Id say hes staying at rugby park with kille where he is gurannteed a game because hes been playing regulary last 2 seasons and he says he happy to stay so why shoudlnt he

reckon he'll stay at killie. hoping that the dobs can get a run in europe to fund his signing next season.
disnae want to play for us.... its clear.
if ye want to be involved at the top end of the game and the champions come calling, dont you jump at the chance.
its one of three things

he disnae want to play for the celts.
he disnae trust his own ability.
he has a lack of ambition.

ok I see you have something against him why he is smart I would stay at kille becuase am getting a game no point going to a bigger club but not getting a game the amount of talent which has been wasted that way

He might come next season when he has further improved as I can see him as a good replacment for maloney.
