    What car do you have?

I have a 318d 2l engine could have it remapped ages ago but decided against it,would have gave me more mileage to the gallon and a little more power.

That's what they said anyway but the 318d turbo has more than enough power for me and I get 47miles to the gallon so I would have wasted 300 notes or something

See whats best for you :50:

I've a 1.9 tdi Passat. Got a price of £220 to get it done. Would like it to get more miles per gallon rather than the power.

If your doing many miles might be worth a punt,I don't use mine much as wife does not drive and I have a company van

I think they said I would get an extra 3 miles to the gallon

Try and work your miles out on a new map might just pay for its self in 6 months or so

    Good luck

Remapping can affect your insurance if you dont tell them its remapped should you claim for something, telling them can up your premium though, also can mess with any warranty you may have. If planning on selling then people do tend to shy away if the car has been tampered with this way. Some remaps you are able to turn on and off yourself in case of any of these things happening so its about weighing up the pros and cons for you. :celt_2:

Prob best to opt for that type just in case. Think they prob just as good as anything for a first stage remap, look on passat was it? forums to see if others noticed a difference with a remap etc :50:

Reading that link Rob123 sent on autoexpress.
A comment stood out, if manufractures can get 20% more why wouldnt they, and another comment made a good point, a engine can not be more powerful or it will comperise the steering, braking etc.
Thats actually a good point, the brakes being the most important part of a car.

Think most first stage remaps just tweak the revs etc for better fuel economy, think its once you start messing with the air intake, turbo, exhaust that you get more drastic results that can affect performance like you said. I am by no means an expert and your right about being careful but I think the initial remap is not a very drastic change. Best to read into it on forums etc before deciding.

I know not one thing about remapping but i hear a few on about it and that was actually the first time i have read something about it.

It got me thinking about something i always wondered about the speed chipping.
Insurance companies, for young people, why they dont have a policy to say look your insurance is £1200 but if you get your car chipped at 50mph we will half your insurance.
I dont know anyone between 18-25 that would not get that done for cheaper insurance.
