Anthony Stokes

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by LoveTheTic88, Jul 23, 2013.

  1. So unless the team is built entirely around this mediocre at best player, he's completely incapable of adjusting his play to a different style? He can * off. An empty jersey.

  2. I prefer Griffiths to Stokes but surely there are better strikers out there that we can snap up?

  3. Aye I've defended Stokes in the past but I'm coming to the realisation he isn't good enough for the level we should be looking to get to. I'm not entirely sure Kris Commons is either. Certainly not as a central playmaker.

  4. funny how we blame Stokes over our CL run beaten 6-1 by a * poor team
and one player is at fault, their is 10 other players tonight who fall short of the standard required in the CL football Markybhoy :38:

  5. He had absolutely nothing to feed off today. Can't judge him on that game.

Oh blah blah same * as always. 19 times out of 20 he has failed to score in Europe. He is not good enough. Why pretend otherwise?

Where's ulsterscot? Look at the utter bollocks he was coming out with before the match. What's the excuse now? He's a waste of a * jersey. Time to go Antonia :bbpd:

  6. if you were to judge tonight Murph-E with would have to put out our youth team
because as far as i see they are all a waste of a jersey.

  7. Don't get me started on our on-the-fringe youth players :smiley-laughing002:

It isn't just tonight with Stokes. The people defending him always ignore the glaring issue- he has scored in one of his TWENTY appearances for us in Europe! For a striker that is * atrocious. That means he has failed to score in 95% of his 20 European appearances for Celtic. Disgustingly bad.

  8. :smiley-laughing002: Eh?

I'm not blaming Stokes for us losing to Legia. I've been saying Stokes is useless at Champions League level for over two years now.

It's not his fault he's no good enough. You can only pish with the * you've got. It's the board's fault for not giving Neil Lennon or Ronny Deila the money to buy a striker better than Stokes so we don't have to keep playing him in Europe.

  9. agree poor record in europe, but we haven't got much better have we, times have change times when we could get top strikers like Sutton, Hartson, from the prem are
over they won't come to the SPL maybe if the old firm games come back we might get a few to come back up to the SPL, Stokes i bet will still be our top scoing striker this season if his here.

  10. If we don't sign any new strikers then you could well be right in saying that. I don't dislike Anthony Stokes, he's a handy player to have in the squad because he can score and create a lot of goals domestically.

If Stokes scored 40 goals this season, does that solve the problem though?

No it doesn't. All it means is we'll go into next year's Champions League qualifiers with Stokes up front again and it's already been proved beyond doubt that he isn't up to it at that level. If we go into next year's Champions League qualifiers relying on Commons and Stokes to get us goals then we will fall flat on our faces again, I can promise you that.

  11. but who will we get in thats better look at Ross McCormack went for 11 million to fulham still in the championship, a good striker cost money can you see the board spending big cause i can't. people saying europa cup is * and not good teams in it Everton sign Lukaku for 28 million and he would tear us a new * hole if we were to meet in the europa cup. yes Stokes not world class but he is the best we can afford at this moment and time. sure lets get in Grant Holt at nearly 40 years oldas some want.

  12. Spot on post mate commons and, to a lesser degree in my eyes, stokes are good domestically but christ that game tonight balls into the box and no one in sight or in the spaces left, and there were alot of em tonight! Not that we created much but what we did create i honestly think a half decent strike force wouldve converted. We let t.watt go (possibly adequetly named but id take a * that scores over a nice guy who doesnt anyday) and keep stokes balde pukki ( who i think shouldve started)! The mind boggles. RD i think will come good given time but tbh if he doesnt pull the finger out soon i see alot of bhoys getting on his back, and rightfully so. He needs to go hat in hand to the board and get funds cause ill be honest our squad is weak and pretty thin of any decent talent. He again got his tactics wrong we couldnt pass water again and his comments days before the game ponning blame on fatigue due to pre season fixtures shocked and scared me. If a couple of games like that freak him out hows he gonna cope with 3 games in a week. League donestic cups and hopefully EL group stage (i dont hold much hope of the last one)

Mulgrew is not a CM hes a decent CB but we have better, or had maybe after the next few days. His main quality is free kicks and i assume corners although offhand i dont recall him taking many. Biton looked a good player last season and brown still to come back with kayal and johansen all contending for 2-3 spots why jam him in there? Not pinning the blame on him thats just a thing that stuck out in my mind the bhoys were atrocious over the 2 legs and if we continue on this road we are destined for a mowbary season if not worse. We are a better team than what we have displayed and i dunno where the * the problem is but we have a serious issue on our hands. They are lethargic one paced and totally lacking in any drive whatsoever. Vvd whondidnt have a great hame either was so * frustrated after that game im not surprised if he leaves if he hasnt already i dont want him to id like to keep all our best players obviously but we need to add no more bullshit of not having any money we have to spend to gain we lucked out with wanyama sold him for a ton same with ki and hooper. Get the * finger out board or more importantly get the cheque book out!

    Rant over :56:

:edit went of on one there stokes i think is poor to keep on topic

  13. He's not good enough for that role in Europe, especially as the lone man but talk about not playing to strengths.. How many long balls did we aimlessly hit and hope in his direction.. ridiculous task against a not exactly big hitter defence..

  14. Nah I'm no having that mate.

There is no way that there isn't a striker out there who is better than Anthony Stokes and within our price range. There'll be loads of them. If we have to pay £3-4million to get the guy then go and * get him. We've got the money.

  15. Utterly useless tonight, like most of his team mates.

    Can do so much better.

  16. Imo just from the players that we have on our books or had on our books until recently griffiths and watt are/were all much better options for european games. Theres also players all over europe who are much better than stokes. We can't buy from the championship anymore because prices are so inflated but thats not the case all around europe. I don't really follow many european leagues but I do follow the polish league a bit and lukasz teodorczyk from lech poznan is a much better player than stokes and would probably go for a pretty reasonable fee. I'm sure there are similar strikers playing in leagues across the continent.

  17. Did team create one good scoring chance for stokes tonight or last season in champion league. You think stokes missed sitters last night by talk you.
There keeper diddnt make a save til end off game.
Strikers need players set them up for goals.

He isn't trusted enough by any past manager to star in Europe and when he was given the nod, he's hardly impressed.

I agree with Marky, and I'm not basing that on last night's performance having never watched it.

He's great domestically and I would keep him for that reason. However there must be someone out there better than him for a modest fee that would improve us in Europe.

Much like the board will do when Forster leaves, they'll replace him by the freebie who hasn't kicked a ball in anger in two years, the board will be happy with Stokes hitting 20+ goals next season and won't view a striker as a priority despite the fact he will never cut it for us in Europe.

  19. Get him and Mulgrew to *.
