you would think a footballer would want to be bought for a giant price
something to gloat about in the future!

sign a contract and leave for a big price

The money a club saves on a transfer fee usually goes towards giving the player a more lucrative wage than he would get if he signed for big bucks.

That's the reason Ledleys the highest payed in our squad.

Reading his article on the front page of the Celtic site this morning it certainly read like Hooper was planning on staying at Celtic this season. Which obviously is great news. I think maybe given its only low end epl clubs that are bidding for him he doesn't see that as furthering his career and or international ambitions.

The key now is will he sign a new contract or not. That is vital. I think given how important he is to Celtic he should be given a new contract that matches him with our highest paid players but stays within the max end of our wage structure.

I really do believe it is in Hoopers interest to sign a new deal and stay at Celtic. In fact I think he should stay long term and become one of our core players like Brown and Ledley. If he chose that path he would be well on the way to becoming a Celtic great and while yes maybe you could earn more cash in the epl it's not like he would be going broke if given a contract matching him with our highest earners which he deserves.

Staying at Celtic and earning good money at a big club where he can win trophies and become a club great versus going to a mid to lower level epl club winning nothing and probably never playing in Europe but earning more money. Those seem to be the choices Hooper faces right now assuming Celtic will offer him at least what our other top earners are getting.

Come on Hoops sign on a new deal and stay and become an all time Celtic great. You know it makes sense!

Get him on a 3 year deal or get him sold Lenny. I'd love him to stay but he's taking to long, the last thing we want is him off on a Bosman.

He will run down his contract and leave for nothing next summer.......
But if im honest i would rather have his goals next year than 4 million,it will also give new players time to settle in.

Celtic have put hooper on the map, the least he could do is sign a new contract and honour it or at least let us make a profit from him in january if europe doesnt go well. Its a win win for all if we make a profit and he goes to prem league. I dont think it will be long to he gets a england cap, even if he is at celtic. Pressures on mr hodgson, can u do what others fail at and open your eyes theres more to the world than the english prem league

Providing we correctly offer to make him one of our top earners, PLEASE sign the contract Hooper.

My gut feeling on this is that we're waiting to see what we get for Wanyama in order to be able to afford to offer him a contract that will tempt him to stay. Hope so.

That said, if he doesn't sign an extension, he's got to go.

If he doesn't sign a new contract to commit himself to the Club and enhance his and our value, then sell him before he even thinks about the Champions League.

Or just don't play him if he thinks he can stay and see out the deal and put the transfer fee in his own pocket.

It would be great news if he signed a new contract.

I will be more than happy if we kept Hooper, Wanyama (unlikely) and acquire a tricky new left winger to go with Balde, Van Dijk and Mouyokolo.

The cherry on the cake would also be an experienced European player to come here on a loan deal and offer their services the CL.

How much does everyone think he will get wage wise, if he were to stay and sign a contract extension?

    £25k?

I would hope we would try and push the boat out for £30k for him. However, only if this is within our budget is manageable.

I hope that can sway him, not to mention the chance to score 100+ and be part of history and the Champions league and the title. :smiley-laughing002:
