when petrov first came to celtic it took time for him to settle in so next season is the one when u will see if he is good enough for the so called best league in the world i wish him luck but look forward to seeing scott brown playing the same position next season

Got to agree. Stan gave Celtic everything, blood, sweat and tears. But some people have just erased 7 tremendous years out of there minds and focused on one incident when we won the league. Neil Lennon hasn't behaved appropriately at times but these are overshadowed by his contribution to Celtic. Same applies to Stan. He was a great Celtic player and wish him all the best in the future.

the mistake we made with Stan was not making him captain, as i see it when Lennon took over the armband Stan was our longest serving player and our best player yet he got overlooked for Lennon...we could have built a great team around Stan instead of sticking with Lennon...bad mistake that and worse not showing Stan the faith he showed the club...i understand why he left and felt disillusioned with the club by the end.

Petrov was there 7 years and must have got fed up going to places like Tannadice and Fir Park . Liam Miller is the one who left and should not have . I'd use him as an example to other youngsters who want to leave .

The way he left was shambolic. Running away down the tunnel early after winning the league, smacked of being a spoilt wee kid. After that was happy to see him leave. If he dont want to be here then on ur bike m8.

Noticed earlier message mentioning Jackie. Cant compare the 2. Jackie didnt want to leave in my opinion. He was happy to stay but got treated shabbily by Celtic. For all the good PL has done, this is one bad mark against his name for me. He thot because Jackie loved Celtic he would sign for less than he was worth. Would have been ok but he was one of our best and most consistent players at the time.

Stan on the other hand, took the nip and worked his ticket out. If people say that GS being cheeky and indifferent to the press means he is being the same to the fans, then Stans petulance was a kick in the stones and then sand in the eyes. Would be happy if he never returned and didnt progress his career.

On the Larsson comment. Dont see teh big deal with booing him while he is playing for another team. He would have came out feeling as if he was playing in his own backgarden. We all knew how good he was, and that he could rip us apart. Upsetting the guy to stop him doing us damage was for the good of Celtic. The fact that he still got a standing ovation at the end proved that he is still our legend in teh modern game, but it was just for the good of Celtic we tried to unsettle him.

How many players in the modern game stay at a club for 7 years and then is sold for up to 8m? Not many to my knowledge. He always gave 100% on the pitch even if he wanted to leave off it. If he had left for nothing, or after a season like Maloney did, then it would be different. Stan was a good servant of the club and should be remembered that way. I hope he plays better for Villa this season and shows how good a player he really is.

he could have stayed another 3 years got a testimonial took the money for that then left at still a reasonable age to play football at but instead his transfer money let strachan sign venegoor gravesen and naylor so i think it was good buisness by celtic to balance the books or would we prefer the likes of ian wright and dion dublin take good money out of the club because they were finished in england so good luck to stan

I totally agree with all of the above. Petrov gave great service over 7 years to Celtic and was a huge cog in the great O'Neill team. He behaved a bit stupidly at the end of the 2006 season but well hey given what he did for the club I can easily live with that.
