I'm sure gronigen would claim to have given him the platform first. I don't see where his agent slagged us off though?
That said agents are the * devil in this game. If clubs (rightly) aren't allowed to tap a player ip, then agents shouldn't be allowed to do * like this. He should be working behind the scenes etc. Not going public and causing unrest.

Agents should be fined heavily for this sort of stuff. They should be tied to contracts to stop them from being able to destabilize players and their relationships with supporters. I know it's inevitable that we are going to lose the big man, as he is absolute class, but this parasite shouldn't be allowed to open his gob with such smug disdain for our club and swan off whilst tapping feverishly at his calculator.

Groningen did not give him a platform to showcase his talents on the biggest stage in the world. His performances at Celtic have been the ones that have earned the interest of the likes of Manchester City & Arsenal.

The comments about our performances in the Champions League. He implies that Virgil's too good for Celtic, which I find very disrespectful. We win and we lose as a team and he wouldn't have been playing at that level this season if he were not at Celtic (the only other CL club interested in Virgil was Ajax and they made it clear they wouldn't be signing him).

If one of the very top English clubs ( someone like Barnsley or Donnie) put in a proper bid. I don't think we can stand in his way.

 

This was always going to happen as Virgil is a top quality player .
He will do well in the EPL when he does go there but it would be nice if we could keep him for another season as the guy is quality .

I'll be pretty hacked off if Van Dijk leaves Celtic this summer. I know he's going to leave sooner or later but I would like to think he would spend at least two seasons here before moving on, preferrably three or four.

I'm starting to find Celtic's role as stepping stone to the EPL pretty depressing. I suppose that is our place in the footballing food chain but that doesn't mean I have to like it. It's not that I have a problem with players leaving us to go and play at a higher level, I just wish they would serve their time here before moving on. Stan Petrov for example, I didn't grudge him his move to Aston Villa at all. Petrov played here for 7 years and gave a good chunk of his career to Celtic so when he left he went with my best wishes. When players come here and just stay for one or two seasons before moving on it just annoys me and leaves a bad taste in the mouth to be honest.

It's quotes from an agent in a tabloid newspaper, so I'm sceptical as to the true intentions of Van Dijk himself.

That being said, if he truly wants to move on at the end of the season then he has to suffer the same fate as Sammy, relegated to the bench, at best.

Play only players who want to be here and will be helping us through the qualifiers.

When a club comes in with an offer that Celtic find acceptable, and that the player deems suitable as far as salary goes, he'll be off. It may be this summer, or next summer, but whenever the criteria above is met it's game over.

You couldn't really blame him for wanting to play in a more lucrative and attractive league, could you?
