I think his pipe dream of playing for England or even the world cup has been put into perspective. No big team is coming in for him and he is not going to get a call up before some of the guy's who are in front of him and playing for Norwich and other smaller teams to the big 6 or even 8 in the EPL are not going to get him in the side.

He will be thinking to himself, go down take the risk and fail or play in a championship winning side get medals and play in the champions league/Europe every season.

...or he may want to move to the EPL? i think he feels he may have a shot at getting in the England set up but i believe he has achieved what he can here and wants to play in the EPL. he'll obviously have his standards of club he thinks he is good enough but i think the key for him wanting to leave is EPL football.

The only reason hooper want to stay is because no big Epl club has made a move for him. My guess is he wont sign a new deal and sign a pre contract in jan.

He may well want to play in the EPL, but for who??? Like I said before do you really think he will get into the England side going to Norwich or Hull??? in front of Rooney, Defoe, Welbeck, Sturridge and Walcott not a chance he is going to get a run in that England side with them in front of him playing for a low level side.

let's not forget that Fraser got his England call up playing for us. Hooper needs to stay and score 30+ goals and he may get a call up too

I think he's trying to not burn his bridges, he probably thought there would be quite a few teams in for him which obviously hasn't materialised (yet). I think we should offer him a two year contract with a written assurance that if an EPL team comes in with an agreeable bid then we won't stand in his way. Then everyone wins.

He's more likely to get a game for England scoring in the CL than playing in the Championship.

It just occurred to me that the bigger teams such as Liverpool and Spurs are probably wanting to wait for another season to see whether or not he was a one hit wonder last season, in terms of the CL.

They need strikers that will consistently do the business for them in Europe. Not that I'm saying Hooper can't, just that they will still be having some doubts, mainly because he's used to playing in the SPL every week.

debatable as he's at a Scottish club, Jay * Bothroyd was in the Championship with Cardiff and was picked for England not that long ago.

Aye in some meaningless friendly, and IIRC he sat on the bench all night.

To be honest it probably is debatable but I'd think if he was getting rave reviews in the CL then he'd be noticed, like Forster was.

Hull will be back in since Austin just failed his medical - price for Hooper just went up! :icon_mrgreen:

I would love him to stay but only if he signs contract extension

If he doesn't want to sign a new contract then we should get him punted. The reality is that nowadays we are a selling club and we need to make a profit on players to keep the scouting gems machine going.

Hull say they won't be back in for hooper? May be better letting him go on the cheap rather than free if his hearts not in it.

time for a dose of realism.
Players are (generally) always going to use Celtic as a stepping stone
    why?
    we play in the SPL
    EPL teams pay far more

As much as i've no problem with Hooper or Wanyama moving to some sh1tty EPL team i understand why they'll do it. All i'm interested in is that Celtic get the best possible deal. In Hooper's case i'd rather see him leave on a Bosman that have sh1tty EPL clubs think they can poach our best players with derisory £4m offers (contrast to the 6.8m liverpool paid for some unproven barca B player last week)

ultimately, i'm not too worried as Lawell will always get the best possible deal for Celtic but i really do think we have to send a message that we'd rather let hooper go on a Bosman that have sh1te EPL teams think they can fly over paradise like vultures.

    I disagree completely Bamboozle.

£4 million for Gary Hooper (with a year to go on his contract!) is a great deal for Celtic and a compliment to both player and club!
