Just been on Cliftonville f.c. Website. Apparently they have a bye into the second round of qualifying in the Champs league. This is due to Real Madrid beating Athletico last night, and securing their spot in next seasons competition. Something to do with all four semi finalists already qualified, and existing places going to other countries? Still confused. How does that leave us?

I thought we had 3 to play too. Two's not so bad but I think three is taking the * as were are champions who made it to the last 16. Does my head in that * like Arsenal who win * all always get in.

    We'll play 3 ties, 2nd qualifier, 3rd qualifier and play-off round.

Whys it ridiculous? thats what happens when you can't win in Europe, probably won more games this season in Europe than we have the three years before.

It's hardly our fault. Our achievements, while not great over the last few years, are good enough to get automatic qualification, or at most 1 qualifier, easily. We can thank the rest of the country for dragging us down like *. We don't deserve to be so low ranked.

Yeah, it's all based on points picked up through wins and draws. We're in this position because of our and the rest of Scotland's poor performance. I'm sure a half decent Rangers run just fell off and that's what has made us play an extra qualifier.

Not really, we ve won 6 games in Europe for the 3 years prior to this, 8 if you include the two games awarded to us after Sion got kicked out, thats not good enough from us. After sion got kicked out we won 1 game in the EL group stage.

The Year before knocked out of the CL by Braga, then Knocked out of the EL by Utrecht

Year before that, won 1 game in the EL after getting knocked out of the CL by Arsenal, although beat Dynamo in the CL 3rd Qualifier

Year before that, won 1 game in the CL

We've brought our own Coefficent down as much as the rest of the SPL, the less you win in Europe the harder it is to get there, and simply we have not been winning in Europe with the exception of this season.

I think all champions should go straight in or they should at least rename the tournament.

Our 'achievements' over the last few years have seen us become ranked 62nd in Europe.

Agreed, National champions should bypass qualifying:icon_mrgreen:

Agreed. Whoever is in third place in the English Prem should be put in the third qualifying stage instead of instant group stage

The non champions teams in the CL play in their own little mini qualifing tournament and do not play other league winners.

As long as we don't get a big team in the third qualifying round like Spurs or Chelsea we'll be fine

It won't be easy, at all.

It means everything to not only us but the other teams we'll be up against. Reaching the Group Stages can put these teams on a firm financial footing for years to come and it shows.
