I drink very rarely, maybe once every 2 or 3 months on average. Some of my mates lives completely revolve around going out every weekend and getting *, dont understand it myself. I like going out but at the same time I dont want to drink every single week. Some of my mates think Im a weirdo when I say I'm happy enough staying in on a friday or a saturday night.

Never smoked either, my mam is after starting again after being off smokes for eight years and the smell of the house is * rotten, I had forgotten how bad it was, i defintely wont ever touch a smoke.

I wish i was teetotal but i enjoy the escapism that Alchohol brings me,it kinda takes the edge off a bad day or when i'm feeling low it provides some solace.I know it's a depressant but it never effects me that way.I suppose the secret is moderation and i have spectacularly failed at that over the years. I fear the problem of dependency on booze, it's a dangerous road to tred and i've been guilty of wandering down that path far too often over the years.I suppose it all stems from my upbringing,my Da, my uncles and their mates always had a can in their hand watching fitba and racing on the telly or he'd come in fae the pub hawf scooshed.
If i could turn back the clock i'd defo do things different with my life, the main thing would be removing the demon drink fae my life.
I'm not an Alky,i drink in moderation now a lot less than i did before but still too much..I can see how easy some people can slide down that slippy slope.
Aye,i really take my hat off tae teetotlers, they're made of stronger * than me.

I'll have a couple of pints every few months now, don't smoke or take drugs, I'm pretty much teetotal as well.

I have a beer or two a few nights a week, at home. The last time I was drunk was when Nakamura scored the winner against Man Utd at Parkhead.

I have pretty much the same issues as OP. The fear especially, it really makes me suffer the next day or two.

I wish I could stop drinking. I am probably considered drunk 3 to 4 times a week at the moment. Which is extremely wrong.

I drink straight after work because its the only thing I can do to stop the mind from thinking about things. Usually just prop myself up at one of the bars in town with a bottle of Vodka. Not proud of it at all, at to be fair I have admitted to myself I have a bit of a problem when I know I cannot stop.

The problem is after a few, idea's that seemed silly, like staying out or moving on to somewhere else become more appealing and this is what I usually end up doing and one of the reasons the missus * off back to Japan, because I would come through the door 1 or 2 am * as a fart a few times per week.

Went through little episodes of trying too stop, just last week went a few days with going straight home after work but that completely fell flat on its * on Saturday after the football, back to the wine, vodka, shots and eventually on to more exciting places in town.

Gonna give it a try over the next few weeks, the whole going home after work rather than going out. See if it works because I cannot deal with the fear, hangover and in general the * feeling that seems to be hanging over me most days per week.

I admire those that find it very easy not to abuse alcohol or any substances.

I've not had a bevy since Jan 2nd cause the Mrs was preggers and now I have a wee daughter!

It doesn't bother me but I'm 32, when I was in my late teens/early 20s I was out 2/3 times a week and loved it, had some great times, some great holidays etc but time moves on responsibilites change etc, but I'll never forget some of the quality times I had!

Out to wet babies head on Saturday, could be messy and I'll enjoy it then probably not drink again for a couple of months.

:56::56:. That had me in stitches.

I'm no tee-totaller myself. I just enjoy putting the feet up and having a drink... I never really get as drunk so as I forget the whole night. It has happened a couple of times and I wake up and see a text and just think "oh *..." but I've fortunately never did anything that has ruined a relationship with someone I know or heavily embarrassed me. In that sense I'm lucky enough maybe. Also, I know the drink is a depressant but I basically always have a good time on it. Suppose it could be a depressant if the environmental factors as in the atmosphere of the area you're in, occasion - like if a * event happened to you lately drinking can make you play it over in your head and make you feel down.

Mind, I really do enjoy sitting in the pub with mates and just getting drunk on the pints more than going out to night clubs etc. Really don't think I could do tee-total though if I'm honest.

I agree with this and in all honesty it * me off. It's like you're not "socially accepted" unless you're a drinker or you like getting totally *-faced. Like it's uncool not to drink. I knew a guy at work who moaned about not having any more but yet he looked forward to a Friday (payday) so he could get totally rat-arsed

A girl I worked with as well went on a bender one Saturday night. When I saw her in work that Monday there were no whites in her eyes at all. The white had been replaced with red because she had burst the blood vessels in her eye balls for puking so hard on Sunday. She didn't remember anything from a certain point onwards from that night either cos she got so drunk. Another girl I knew almost choked on her own vomit when she was sleeping because she had drunk that much the previous night she never even woke up when she started puking. It was her husband that managed to get her up and get her to the bathroom.

I very, very rarely drink and even when I do it's probably really only at New Year, so I guess I am considered more teetotal than anything else. Never really been one for drinking much at all. Of course seeing people act the way they do when they get drunk (like the incidents above) and the state of people when they have hangovers has had a hand in my decision making :icon_mrgreen:

There is some social pressure to drink, definitely. Not as much as before but it's still there. I know plenty of fellas who are notorious for deliberately buy non-drinkers a pint when they go up to the bar for a round because they see it as a challenge to get the non-drinker drinking again. "What are you having?" "Pepsi" "Vodka and coke it is then," or they just come back with a vodka and coke without letting on.

They're usually the same ones who rip the pish out of any non-drinkers at the table as well.

It's not right and to be fair people do usually intervene and tell them to wise up.

If someone doesn't want to drink I don't really see what's served by trying to get them to do so. You're going to drink yourself anyway.

Not exactly teetotal but I haven't been drunk in about 3 and a half years, I only a glass a cider with dinner these days and I drink those purely for taste and no other reason and I'll never have more than 2 pints a day.

Reason I stopped getting drunk was after my holiday to China in 2009 when I got conned out of £250 one night out after a * load of whiskey's when in Shanghai and in Lijiang I decided to go on a night out and I originally wanted to go out on my own but my tour guide decided to invite himself out with me and thank * he did because I drank far too much and I decided to go outside to get some fresh air and the last thing I remember was puking up on some plants will some Chinese girl was laughing her head off passing me tissues before I passed out, luckily my guide was still in the bar and he came looking for me and was able to get me back to my hotel room but I dread to think what would of happened if he didn't invite himself along because then I would of been outside I nightclub passed out with nobody to take me back and with a flight to catch the next morning

So it was those incidents and some before that such as taking my manager's phone out of her handbag and looking through her text messages and refereeing 2 kids football games while hungover which kinda made me realise that spending * load of money just to get drunk and to embarrass myself and not embarrass myself in way I can laugh about in the future but does nothing but make me cringe when thinking back

I agree. There is pressure on non-drinkers to actually drink and it's not right. It just seems that you're not socially accepted unless you drink which is wrong.

On one night out I had with my old work a good few years ago, they were all having aftershocks, and one of the girls said that I was having one. I said I wasn't and she continued with the "yes you are" pish. She actually started * me off because she just kept at it. If she wanted to get off her face on aftershocks then that's her business, but don't force me to drink them.

If people want to go out and enjoy themselves then I obviously have no problem with that, but if people actually have to rely on drink to have a good time then they have a serious problem in my opinion.
