It's clear that Celtic can currently compete with some of Europe's top teams on a relative shoestring budget. Given that the club would receive an absolute fortune from TV money, sponsors, and increased investment etc if they began playing in England- I have no doubts the club would be at or around the top of the table.

I'm assuming he means the TV money in which case they already have it.

    Not true.

EPL clubs squander millions on some hilariously * purchases. Building a team with well thought out, targeted transfers using our already excellent scouting system would be the way to go. Of course if we were to go in and just take the scatter-gun approach that a lot of EPL teams do then we would still be more successful than most on the account of having a bigger gun (revenue).

sweens spot on you need to look at this with your head and not your heart

there's big big clubs languishing in the bottom tiers of english football

leeds, nottingham forrest, sheffield wednesday, sheffield utd, wolves to name just a few

big fan bases doesnt gaurantee success

As presently constituted? 11-17th is the most likely placing... But within 5 years, the club would be contending pretty regularly for a top 4 spot, IMO... Already a big club, the EPL would bring in a great deal of revenue and with it, the ability to sign pricier players

In our first season we would perhaps be between 6-10th. Think our home fixtures would secure this position...and with full houses against the top teams , I can see us beat a few of them. What's certain is that we would grow as a club ... full houses, the money from television...would bring us in a few years' time in the top 5.

One of the main reasons Liverpool are where they are though is purely down to spending over £100 million, and mostly on utter *! Carroll £35million, Downing £20million, Henderson £16million, Allen £15million, Adam £7million, Borini £10million. With a decent scouting system, Liverpool could easily be challenging for the title having squandered that much money! Leeds are where thay are due to borrowing too much too quickly!

So to say there isn't any reason to say we could challenge in a few years time, I wouldn't agree with! Having a big fan base, which we have, and television money, which we would get down South play a big factor! But running the club properly and spending wisely are just as important. If we spent £100million on our team, I would expect us to at least mount a challenge!

Celtic has a far larger supporter base than any of those clubs, and therefore greater income from such support.

    no doubt

but that doesnt guarantee success was my point

i think we probably have a bigger british, irish, american, canadian support than man utd

but i wouldnt like our club to be run in perpetual debt like they are

scary if that club just stopped winning stuff where it would end up

Correct me if I'm wrong, because I could be speaking absolute pish. But I'm pretty sure I once heard that you get £30 million if you get relegated from the EPL?

I think it might even be more than that.

I'm sure one of the Norwich fans that came on here, said that the teams who got relegated from the English Premier League last season got more money from parachute payments than Man City did for winning the league!

Premiership TV money is going up next season too, I think next season £60million is the lowest a team will get, its about 50x more TV money than we will get :smiley-laughing002::55::54: even though we will probably be on TV more than them.

It's really frustrating, because I personally don't really rate th EPL at all. It's just hyped up to a ridiculous extent by the likes of Sky Sports (obviously partly to do with marketing)

Most teams in the Epl would struggle to beat Benfica. In fact I reckon they would hammer teams like QPR.

these is no shame in not beating Benfica, Look at the Portuguese league and see how little points they have dropped, and that league is much stronger than ours

With the team we have right now about 7th/8th. With team we would be able to construct with the money they get down there then we would win the * thing.

with this squad i would say anywhere from 10th to 20th think our defence would be the biggest problem and we don't really have out and out wingers forrest seems too inconsistent

Wigan stayed up with a centre back pairing of Caldwell and Bramble. :smiley-laughing002: That's poor even by SPL standards. We're light-years ahead of the bottom BPL sides defensively.
