Make prisons a horrible experience to endure. Ireland and the UK should take a leaf out of Russia's book when it comes to prisons.

There is debate not just here, but on the TV, papers, radio etc about the death penalty.
You would be hard pressed to find any of these things having debate on women voting etc..
Are you telling me there wasnt a time you didnt think that * deserves to be killed for what he done??

This is what disturbs me most. It's not so much the death penalty debate in itself it's the TalkCeltic tabloid underbelly that shows up whenever anyone starts up these sorts of threads.

People lose the run of themselves, they really do. It's depressing.

Of course. But that doesn't and wouldn't make it any more right.

And the "debate", such that it is, is largely confined to right-wing tabloids for whom bloodlust, intolerance and rabble-rousing are one and the same.

Well not really, as someone said earlier, this is a left wing club and i would assume almost all the fanbase is the same and there is still a 1/3 that would agree with it in exceptional circumstances..

More like trying to find as many circumstances as possible. Tabloid pitchforks burning bright tonight, prisons are holiday camps, etc etc.

Do you have to be right wing to hold strong beliefs about capitol punishment or could it be out of a genuine sense of justice being served?

Don't think it is possible to rehabilitate psychopaths as it is ingrained in their personality.

Well i said Murder should be a death sentance, dont know so much about Rape, Peados etc but i think they should have far harsher terms than they usually get,
But some prisons are like holiday camps, IMO jail should be alot harsher than it is...
Il buy u a pint the next time am up in Derry and debate further :50:

For those who are advocating capital punishment, for whatever reason, can you take a stab at these. No tricks, just interested to know if you've thought it through more than the initial inclination.

Who decides who deserves to die?
Why do they get to be the ones with that power?
Who does the killing? Why aren't they held responsible for the killing they do?

The issue of the death penalty is a philosophical, ethical and political debate that is characterised by extreme complexity, loopholes, exceptions and tragedies and it is not well-served by either over-simplification or tabloid rabble-rousing.

    Sure I'll take a pint. :50:
