    So I've been thinking.....

It's the opinion of most Celtic fans that we will sell Big Vic(10m-15m) and Hooper(5m-8m) at the end of season.

So let's say we get 17m-20m from both sales combined. With that and taking into account the money from our Champions League exploits so far this season, what would you like to see happen ?

Me personally, I'd like to see Lenny get 10m to spend, Bring in an experienced CB, experienced CM & also a replacement for Hooper before the Champions League qualifiers come around to give us the best chance possible of making it back to the group stages again ££££££.

This is my 1st thread btw so be nice. Hail Hail :shamrock::celt_2::shamrock:

I say don't sell Vic or Hooper, get them on bumper contracts and keep the team together. Near impossible to replace them two at the moment.... especially big Vic.

The problem is that it is difficult to attract champions league quality players to the spl, even if we can afford it. and with rangers not there I imagine it is even more difficult. Which is why I can see us doing our transfers in the last few days of the transfer window, so likely no new players for the qualifiers.

Yeah, in the past it made sense to sell players to acquire more talent, but you aren't going to get better talent than Vic and Hooper here any time soon. It's time to keep what's ours, if possible. It's all down to whether or not those players want to stay on.

Old adage: you can't keep an unhappy player. Henrik stayed for 6/7 seasons but even Ghod had his fill.

No player is irreplaceable but Henrik came close to that tag. Hooper and Wanyama are good but not legends in. their own lifetimes and I won't shed a tear when they go as long as we are paid richly.

certainly seems like neither really wants to stay here and we certaily could afford better with the money we got from hooper and wanyama. lewandowski and rudnevs come to mind as two who are better than hooper and were bought by their respective teams for less than we would be selling hooper for. (obviously those two are just examples and we could no longer afford them but we could afford the next lewy or rudnevs).

Yeah players aren't going to want to join a CL last 16 team because Sevco aren't in the SPL.

    Sweet Jesus. :31:

I would much rather get both players signed up on new deals and hold on to them for at least another year.

However if they do go I can't see us altering our transfer policy too much, regardless of how much they go for.

I agree. I think that Hooper is quite excited to switch to the EPL and we are eager to get some money for him so I am quite sure he will be gone this summer. In Vic´s case: If clubs like ManU or Arsenal knock on his door he is almost certain to leave. I could see us doing a cheeky deal with ManU which includes someone on loan (probably youth player though) and money.

Both will be terribly hard to replace but dont think we will spend major bucks. Especially Vic I think will be replaced by Kayal/Ledley. As far as Hooper goes I can see us spending like 3-5m at most.

If any player really wants to leave then let them go ........ very few clubs can give an atmosphere like ours. Maybe when they are playing in front of quiet crowds and getting good money they will think back to our stadium and fans and wish that Celtic were playing in the premiership......

We are a huge club with massive potential but we are in a backwater concerning domestic football. Hope we get a decent price but any player leaving Celtic may not be getting european football on a regular basis (think Vic will get a good club but any other player may be taking a chance ) However, the English Premier league must be more interesting to play in .......... we wont keep great players.. Larson was the exception and we may never see another player with very good talent give us that length of service.

Much will depend on Lenny.......... do the players have loyalty to him ? that may be our best chance of keeping players at the club. Are they really a team with team spirit or just a group of individuals. Can't fault Sammy's loyalty... let's see who else is as committed to the club

I can see Wanyama,Hooper,Kayal(wanders about with a face like a skelped *),commons and Mcourt going. We would still be relatively strong in midfield and Efe looks like he could be good as a holding midfielder.Could do with a big powerfull mobile striker and another defender. At the moment our squads to big therefore making it difficult to give all players plenty of game time especially the development players.I dont see us changing what has proved to be a succesfull policy so far and we cannot be certain we will qualify every year for the last 16 of the champions league.Steady as she goes is what i would be advocating.

this is going to sound a bold radical move. But keep the players, get into the champions leagues groups and then offload the players who want to go to non european competition playing clubs for very large money.

What may very well happen is that both players or at least one of them will wait to see if we are in the champs groups again and then make their decision based on that outcome.

agree on mccourt, wanyama, and hooper but I think we will be keeping kayal and commons as they are two of our more important players and probably wouldn't get us enough money to tempt us to sell.

If we lost Wanyama, Kayal, Commons and McCourt we would be * in midfield.

We'd have lost both our creative players, and our two best "diggers".

If Big Vic stayed for 7 seasons he'd go on to become as big a legend as Larsson, he's going to be that good. Not going to happen, though. I do think an extra season here would benefit both him (assuming we reach the CL group stages again) and the club (if he signed an extension), but I don't think he'll sign any kind of extension, so we have to sell him in the summer to get the big payoff. Not as bothered about Hooper. Great player, but he can be replaced.
