So after seeing this year's fantasy football league go * up once again due to a lack of interest I'm trying to think of a set up which will make the appeal last longer. Euros/ World Cup fantasy leagues are great, but full Premiership seasons usually wither and die before Christmas.

This is partly inspired by "The League" which is an American comedy about a group of guys and their fantasy NFL league. They take it way too seriously but their version does look quite fun. Head to heads, trophies, play offs etc.

So, my basic initial ideas are as follows:

Include a draft. First pick on all positions may make it too easy for those designated to pick first so maybe 4 draft orders for ST, Mid, Def and GK. Would also ensure that everyone can't have RvP alongside the cheapest striker.

Include a Vs table, probably have to be done manually. Each week or month (depending on numbers) would include a head to head of one player's team versus another. Either a cup and knockout format or a league table, I prefer cup knockout. The winner of such should be able to compete for the title against probably the most successful player overall. So, even if you are way back on the leader you still have the opportunity to win the thing and keep interest.

Pretty much all i've got so far. Any ideas lads? Also, think its a barmy idea?

Fantasy football leagues only really remain competitive throughout if theres a prize at the end IMO

You're probably right. I'm thinking a nice, cheap trophy. Named as a ridiculous in joke with the pals.

The NFL.com fantasy football is great. The best part imo is...you play against a person in a league system rather than just your points. And obviously the draft. Makes you think a bit more and also need to improvise.

All great points, playing my friends in NFL Fantasy Football is what gives me the incentive, it's all about bragging rights.

And 4 teams can't have Wayne Rooney that's just stupid.

So true RocknRolla, thats why ive added a draft ;)

With one sub for each position so we can just transfer in and out. We would still have to use say sky sports FF still, I think. Unless you know a way around this?

Any more ideas on this chaps? I'm sure there's loads of fantasy football fans on here!

It seems to be generating some momentum amongst me and the lads so there might be something in this.

Is there a FF site which gives you subs but doesn't auto select them if they do better than your first team? I think Premier League does but auto selects best point scorers which would screw up the draft.
