Now you've contradicted yourself though, earlier you said we should move past the stage where we sign players based on potential. If you do actually belive there should be a balance what is wrong with Russell? Russell for me would have been a perfect signing because we know he can perform in the league but he has the potential to do well in Europe. Even if he didn't perform in Europe he would cost almost nothing. I just don't see the downside. Its not as if spending less than 1 million on Russell would cripple us financially and stop us bringing in these experienced players you are expecting.

He doesn't undergo his medical until Monday. Theoretically, we could match the bid, agree terms, and sign him before then. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, it could happen but if he's agreed to sign then I couldn't see him changing his mind now......shame...really wanted to see this lad playing in the hoops.

Raging at Lenny giving it the 'we're monitoring the situation' patter yesterday. What, with your eyes closed, Neil?

'We're monitoring the situation' while the player is snatched from under our noses.

    Smashing.

Please no. He's nowhere near as good as Russell.

Think we could have had him if we really wanted him. We've had a few opportunities to get him- back in January and last summer on dead line day we were apparently interested but then Miku came in instead.... and that worked out well...

I take it Lennon just doesn't fancy him. Don't know why though. Think he would have fitted right into the club and would have hit the ground running.

Maybe not, but he'd definitely bring a lot of creativity to the team.

The only positive I can take from this is that Lennon must be confident Hooper is staying...

Very poor decision not to buy Russell. For such a small fee it was not a major gamble and wouldn't have stopped the purchase of other strikers

I'd take GMS long before Russell, a no more than decent forward with a relatively poor strike rate.

Russell would have been a punt, a punt probably worth taking if he were on a free as he would be capable of being in January.

Signing a wee guy from Coatbridge that hates the huns and has a mediocre scoring record would be uninspiring. Scouring Europe for the next Wanyama is what is inspirational.

I agree Hammer. GMS is a raw talent, who, in the right hands, could be developed into a top talent. I like Russell, but GMS really excites me.

how do you figure that he had a poor strike rate, he scored better than 1 in 2 in all competitions this season and that was while playing as a second striker for a large amount of the time.

I'd have took him for 750k, blistering pace that would cause defenders all sorts of problems, no bad wee finisher aswell. 750k will turn out to be a bargain for derby.
