I've heard that, aside from being racist propaganda bullshit, it's very badly written.

I've read it, I studied History at uni....don't really recommend it, he goes off on one quite often and it's not that insightful, as in you don't learn too much else about him.

    This is a good book.

About a guy who spends a few years in a Thai prison.

Actually the wrestler Mick Foley/Mankind/Cactus Jack/Dude Love's book was good.

So was this about one of the renowned Kray twins gangsters -

I've read Born Fighter, Reg Kray's one. Be interesting to read this one and see how their accounts of situations differ. I thoroughly enjoyed Reggie's; though to this day I'm unsure as to his mental state at the time of writing some of his stuff, at times he seems very insightful, at others stereotypical if you know what I mean.

Thats probably an accurate statement. When I read it looking for quotes I found it difficult to actual just read the book due to the way it was written.

It seemed like he sat there with a thesaurus next to him the whole time looking up the most obscure terms for simple words and phrases just to appear intelligent. I've read a lot of books from a lot of different time peiods but his was just unnecessarily complex even when you take into consideration when it was written.

Like you said it's mostly bs and racist propoganda, but if someones a big enough history buff they might be willing to persevere.

    The Richardson books.

Eddie “My life as a Gangland Boss” and Charlie’s “My Manor” are very much like this. Considering they grew up in the same house and spent so much of their lives “ working” together they seem to agree on very little about their background and how they ended up where they did.

If anybody is interested in crime in 60’s London though I would say they are worth a read certainly equally as much as the Kray books( I have read Born Fighter as well.)

Michael Connor's 'The Soho Don' is also worth a read and tells a couple of stories about the twins that I am pretty sure would never make it into any of their autobiographies.

Another really interesting read is 'Mindhunter' by John Douglas. He was the top criminal profiler at the FBI's behavioural science unit and dealt with the 'green river killings' and other notable cases. IIRC, the Jack Crawford character in Silence of the Lambs was based on Douglas.

Just read about Dolores Price passing away and that reminded me about Michael Mansfield's "Memoirs of a Radical Lawyer" that I read last year and would recommend.

That sounds really good actually, right up my street. I've actually been to the 'green river' when I went to Seattle in 2009, it felt really eerie.

The Kid Stays in the Picture by Robert Evans, a Hollywood movie producer (Chinatown, The Godfather). The film is hysterical as well. I prefer an autobiography to be really vain & full of lies.

Read one of Mandela, but it wasn't strictly an autobiography since it was his journal entries he's written over the course of his life. He's written in journals most of his life though and there's some pretty interesting stuff in that book.

When I read Big John Hartson's book I was in tears at the end. Best autobiography I've ever read . His battle with cancer was heartbreaking and to beat it and climb Ben Nevis was superb. Recommend it to anyone. Also Ranulph Fiennes book was brilliant too.
