I remember back in the day that David Ginola came up to Glasgow for a look around Celtic Park. However, he decided he didn't fancy the weather in Glasgow, and promptly moved to the tropical climes of Newcastle!

He has had a below par career to date IMO. Transfered to Benfica, didn't start with them and was loaned out to Monaco who said thanks but no thanks, Turkish, Greek and Portugese 2nd division clubs who all cut his loan short.

Trials with Man U, Celtic et al, all said thanks but no thanks.

Free transfer to DC United where he's not a starter, something like 30 games in three years.

Hasn't played for his country in years.

He was supposed to be the next Pele now he can't get a game.

Rivaldo - i remember nearly * myself when i seen a photoshopped picture of him in a celtic kit on the back page of one of the newspapers lol
Riquelme - i remember we supposedly just missed out on him on transfer deadline day
Jackson Martinez - would have been a great signing if we signed him, i think his club upped the price of him when we were interested, top scorer at the moment in the portugese league i believe

Kompany - had we managed to get him i don't think we would have had the defensive woes we have had in the past few years.

    Michu!

To think so many teams ignored the guy or just hadnt heard of him until Swansea took a punt for £2m is incredible.

To a more realistic extent, McCarthy at Hamilton seems to have been a missed opportunity.

    Javier Sanchez Broto.

Would have been a very good goalkeeper for us.

Most people who think football exists outside of the Premiership knew Michu, he was the highest scoring midfielder in La Liga before he signed for them.

Shay Given would have saved us a lot of time and money if we'd signed him professionally. He could have been our 'keeper for 20 years.

Fletcher and McCarthy are recent ones who were right under our nose. Both were obviously talented boys who were ready to make the step up. They could have improved our squad, and made us a lot of money by now.

McFadden was another one. I know there were some concerns about his attitude at a young age but he just had that ability to turn games.

Ginola was a real Tommy Burns-type player. Would have fitted perfectly in that era with the other foreign players around him.

Dimitar Berbatov is one I really wish we had signed. I remember seeing him linked at the time and was really excited. Larsson was irreplaceable but Berba would have filled the void nicely.

Hleb is another one we were linked with after playing them. He could have been a revelation with us.

Hleb's still attainable, he's back playing for BATE Borisov.

While he would have been an excellent signing as a 22 year-old, he'd probably be a waste as a burned-out 30-something.

He was lazy, which is why he failed at Barca.

Ive never liked Hleb. Hes a good entertainer and dribbler but always thought he was lightweight and his shooting and crossing was awful. Although he could have been like Iniesta of the SPL.

Kuzmanovic is another player we almost signed, him and Kranjcar would probably have been class and we'd have made quick money by selling them soon after.

Tymochyuk and Vukojevic were another two who would have been good signings. Particularly the Ukrainian.

    Aye forgot about them.

Imagine we had got all them

    Tymoschyuk
    McCarthy Kuzmanovic Vukojevic
    Kranjcar
    Fletcher

We were also linked with Hamsik and someone else from his country when they were like 18 and 19 but never signed them. Think it was in 2006.
Cant find many links but was in the papers at the time. Tuesday, 24 April 2007 by Rastislav Hribik Slovakian teenager Marek Hamšík is dreaming of emulating his hero Pavel Nedvěd after impressing in Serie B with Brescia Calcio. Goalscoring spurt Just 19 years old, the Banska Bystrica-born central midfielder has already been linked with the likes of Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC, Celtic FC and AC Milan having improved on a promising 2005/06 campaign in Lombardy with 33 league appearances and eight goals this term. In recent weeks he has put on something of a spurt, scoring three goals in five league games to boost his side's hopes of promotion to the Italian top flight.
