What do you think are realistic figures, that we should receive for Wanyama and/or Hooper, if sold later this coming year.

Spluttered out some coffee there myself at that valuation! :smiley-laughing002:

While of course we are a 'selling' club, as is everyone if the price is right, we actually have not lost many players over recent seasons that we would have been desperate to hold onto. The likes of Boruc and Nakamura I suppose and of course McGeady and Petrov spring to mind and we got a decent amount for both these players.

The main things I'm looking at this window, is how much it will actually take to get the players that we'd rather keep .. and if they will sign an extension.

Getting to the last 16 has been an incredible incentive for players to stay on in January, but I wonder how long that will stick together as a group?

We've got a great group of players all excelling at the same time, but very few of them have much allegiance to Celtic & see us as a stepping stone.

Lawell & Lenny need to get their timing right & manage the Squad very cleverly in order to get most success, both financially & in terms of silverware/co-efficiency.

Lenny talks up Hooper & Forster more than any other players (even Vic), part of me thinks he's trying to push their price up - getting into the England starting 11, or even the bench regularly would surely see the value of these 2 go Galactic + they are both good enough too, so Lenny isn't exaggerating.

Really, there are only about five clubs in the whole world that aren't selling clubs.

Every player has his price, however it's up to Celtic to get the best deal possible for these players due to our existance in the SPL. Running down contracts is in the player's and their agents interest, not the club's, but there is an onus on the club to try their best to hold on toour star players when ever possible.

Lawwell wanted the Celtic supporters to dig deep due to The Rangers FC not being in the SPL anymore, well perhaps with our success so far in the CL we can wipe out our debt and sign one or two class players.

Everyone's talking about us being a 'selling club' but the only player we've sold under this policy, really, has been Ki (£6m was a great price for him). We need to sell when players are at their peak value and still have plenty of time (i.e. 2 years plus) on their contract. A year out of the CL and our player's values will plummet. Also player's form can drop really quickly - I reckon we could've received a very decent fee for Izzy after his first season, now I doubt there would be much interest, certainly not from top clubs. Same with Kayal to an extent. It's all about picking the right time to move the player on even if they're one of our top players. I'd love Wanyama to stay here for years but if he does we'll lose out on a fair amount of money (unless he turns out to be truly world class and earns us CL qualification every year in which case he's worth more to us than a transfer fee). Also no point in selling if we can't replace them with a better player/players. It's a bit of a dilemma - we want to keep our best players, especially if their happy to be here, but we want to get to Porto's level where we're buying for £5m, selling for £45m, obviously over a period of time.

Even if he had come back and played amazing for us, which I see no reason to believe he would have I'm pretty sure his contract was running down and their was no way in * he would have signed another one so he still wouldn't have been worth 12m

    I agree with that.

And I've heard from some Swansea fans that they are starting to feel the same frustrations with Ki as we did at times, i.e. his unwillingness to take control of the game and being too passive.
