I didn't think it was a penalty. But as the lads have said, we've had so much bad luck in Europe over the years it was good to be on the other side for a change.

Penalty decisions are just liked boiled eggs..

soft or hard, they are still eggs.

the ref has his preferences and i am not complaining

Modern day would have to be Henrik...
Stonewaller. Charlie fannying around in the corner was hilarious - must have been infuriating for the Russians though

Penalty for me, its a foul anywhwere on the park especially in Europe.

Sammy done well to get the ball down and turn the man.

Charlie in the corner was excellent, because as soon as he took it the sprinted and fouled him out of frustration, wasting more time.

2 very streetwise moments by our players showing they are gaining experience.

I couldn't believe the ref gave it to be honest. I genuinely laughed when he did, it was never a pen and if it had been given against i'd have been totally fuming! The guy doesn't go steaming in to anyone, sammy turns away from him, gets brushed and falls to the floor :56: i genuinely couldn't give a * because it got us through, but if it had been at the other end and put us out i'd be giving up on life.

If that was the case you would have given up on life numerous times over in the past then. It has happened to us countless times in Europe, and far far worse than that. You must forget about that.

It was a penalty, it would have been a foul in normal play so therefore it's a foul in the box. A soft penalty? Aye..... A dive?....No * way

I was surprised it was given, but as has been said we're due a break in Europe.

Weve had 4 or 5 soft ones against us over the years that have cost us. quite simply you cant go in like that in the box in the CL. Its a penalty

    That's the key for me.

Was it soft? Most definitely. Was it a foul? Most definitely. Was it a dive? Most definitely not.

This would have been the straw that broke the camels back for sure. We were deserving of some luck and we got it but like i said, if that had knocked us out i and everyone on here would be raging.

It definitely wasn't a dive because there was some contact but not enough to send a guy like sammy down. It was obvious he played for the pen and fair play to him he got it.

It was a penalty, clear contact in the box.

It was very soft but you win some you lose some. Wee bit of justice for Amorusos for Juve 11yrs ago. A tim never forgets.

Everyone in the pub shouted "great dive Sammy!" :56:
If that had been the other way round we would be absolutely raging, tbh it makes me more happy knowing that we got a softie as it makes the huns even more mad :56:

We were not lucky last night.

Commons had a volley in the first half that was going in but was deflected by a Spartak * (no corner given)

    Samaras hit the post

Mulgrew almost scored from a header, only for the Spartak keeper to pull off a wonder save

Ambrose also went close from a Commons' corner (which some of the ground celebrated)

We were due a goal eventually.

It was a "soft" penalty........but a penalty nonetheless.

The defender went into Samaras with his hands up and on his body. There was definite contact - whether or not the big Greek made a bit of a meal of it is another point - but the defender only has himself to blame.

    GIRFUY.

Naturally - even if one of our defenders had stuck the nut on the opposition player in the box, I'd still be raging they got a penalty for it though :56::56:

Defender has tackled with his hands up so he can only have himself to blame.

Also, the award of the penalty makes up for the fact that Hooper (I believe it was him) was bearhugged by the opposition defender at one of Celtic's corners.

Samaras is certainly looking for it and he goes down easily but there was sufficient contact for the penalty to be given imo. You see them given in Europe all the time
