He's had 2 bad injuries lately but he is * awesome; definitely fulfilling his potential when fit.

Javier Portillo is always one that has puzzled me; was breaking records at Youth Level the full way through. Played 30 odd games for Madrid in his first season and a half, loaned out and is just now utter *.

He could have been world class.

10 appearances his first season for Real, got 5 goals...

Nah, Owen is most definitely not wasted talent, his record is very good. Just a shame that the injuries he got kept him out for what would have been record breaking years. There is no doubt in my mind he would be far and away England's record goalscorer if only his fitness had held up. Whenever he came back from injury he played well enough. At Man Utd he rested on his laurels though, knowing he wasn't going to be a regular but was willing to sit there even when fit. Carling Cup aside. Really like Owen as well, such a shame.

Our biggest one recently would be Michael McGlinchey, just seen on SSN he scored 2 for New Zealand in a WC Qualifier there. Through our youth teams he was seen as being as good as McGeady but injuries and boozing meant he never progressed.

Sad actually that him, Simon Ferry and Charlie Grant were the 3 best players in that youth side and all 3 were * with injury. Grant missed 3 years and Ferry missed 2 years, McGlinchey was in and out with injury for about 2 years.

They were head and shoulders above the likes of O'Dea, McGowan, O'Brien, Conroy, Gardyne and Caddis and Sheridan who joined them in the reserves have all went on to have decent enough careers.

I always wanted Caddis to get a proper run in the team. Really liked him :50:

Grant and Ferry.... that's two I feel awful for.

Simon Ferry especially; he looked like the next McStay coming through the ranks. Best range of passing I've seen from a Celtic youth player. Charlie Grant was just explosive.

Maceo Rigters. That's what he gets for turning down a massive club like Celtic for a diddy team like Blackburn.

Both himself and Drenthe were the stars at the 2007 U21 European Championships and now Rigters is playing for some * Australian side after failing to win a place at Aberdeen and in fact Drenthe himself is now a free agent after showing so much early promise.

Grant was literally ruined by injury, such a shame. Ferry is a * nutcase though which is partly to blame for him not making it at a higher level.

I was looking at his Wiki page the other day. Surprised Everton didn't keep him on tbh he done well for them last season. Not sure if he had an injury during the summer or if wages are a stumbling block but he is more than good enough to get himself a decent club. Strange one.

Drenthe is a complete troublemaking * who is talented but isn't quite talented enough to make up for it.

If Mourinho can´t make a player out of you.....no one will......Quaresma and Drenthe just examples of that....

Leighton Baines form and probably his wage demands. He wanted to go back to Feyenoord but Koeman didn't want him.

It is a bit strange, particularly with the money down South, that no one has snapped him up.

The only thing I've heard him do that's troublemaking is accusing Messi of being a racist. Any other stuff I've not heard about ?

Imo he could definitely be at a decent club. Everton standard was about right for him.

He was played further forward than LB from what I remember. I also vaguely remember Moyes dropping him for something but can't remember what.

Dodgy tackles and trying to fight with people in training. He got bombed out by Moyes; said practically what I did his talent isn't worth his attitude.

Because he is a good player; it's just all about him though. He's a *.

He still had quite a successful international career though. Just wasn't as good as everyone thought he was. Was brilliant to watch though; mad skillz :icon_mrgreen:
