Can see this thread turning into a whole heap of drummer jokes, lol...

But in all seriousness, any discussion of drummers is null if Buddy Rich is not part of the discussion... and that goes for Animal too! :smiley-laughing002:

Simon Phillips, Neil Peart, Carl Palmer.

Personal favourite is Mel Gaynor of Simple Minds. Saw him at a drum clinic and got to ask him a question. He duly showed me how he played part of his solo and left me speechless.

Saw Carl Palmer at a drum clinic, he's an amazing drummer and general top guy.

Taylor Hawkins, mostly known for his work with the Foo Fighters, is a personal favourite of mine, as well as Dave Grohl himself. They might not be as technically gifted as session drummers like Dave Weckl, but they make up for it with passion and grit.

I prefer my drummers to innovate and be cool, not dazzle with technique.

The best musician in the Arctic Monkeys, hands down (in fact the only really exceptional individual at their instrument even though he only took it up as the other positions in the band had been filled). Helders is outstanding at coming up with parts on the drums that are almost like riffs in themselves. Listen to Pretty Visitors, Sketchead, R U Mine, Brianstorm for evidence of this.

Incredible mate. He has had loads of sensational performances but that is his finest imo.

Even when he loses a stick at 4.40 (or thereabouts) he doesn't miss a beat.

Some of his solos during Delicate when you can't even see him behind the kit because it's so big are amazing as well.
