Post your favorite rendition of a classic, or something we probably haven't heard.

    ======

I'm a huge fan of the Wolfe Tones (unheard of for a Celt eh ), they really opened up the world of Irish music to me, and helped inspire my love of Irish history. The history books, in turn, are where I discovered Celtic FC.

Anyway, my dad (who emigrated to the US from Co. Leitrim in the 1960's) had their 25th Anniversary Concert (filmed @ the Barrowlands) on VHS. I've listened to so much of their stuff over the last number of years, seen many shows live, but for me, that concert remains the Wolfe Tones at their best.

Lastly, going the other direction, perhaps something new to many, from Shilelagh Law (NY Irish pub band). They have a ton of stuff on Youtube:

    This one's a band original.

    LYRICS

    What a whirlwind,
Couple weeks was all I had,
    Travelled light,
Take it in as best I can,
I walked the beaches in the north,
I hiked the Burren and the Mohers,
    Stood on hilltops,
And I sang like I never sang before

    (Chorus)
    Here's to Mayo,
    And its rocky shores,
    Here's to Galway,
Pubs and pints and open doors,
    Here's to Derry,
    And the PEOPLE'S DREAM!
    Here's to Dublin,
As I watch the sun light up the Irish Sea,

    Up in Buncrana,
I climbed the hills of Donegal,
    South to Westport,
The music echoed all night long,
The craic was grand in Castlebar,
    Connemara stole my heart,
    Felt the hands of time...
    On the Cliffs of Moher

    (Chorus)

    Know it's been some years,
Since I walked upon your coast,
    Know it truly dear,
I'm stil haunted by your ghost,
Miss you when I am away,
    Certain memories never fade,
    Until I return...
    I'll count down the days!

Something lil different, original piece and they're from Spain I believe. Great instrumental.

One of my favourite bands, not sure how well known/popular they are but a irish-american punk band heavily influenced by irish music.

Band called "The Merry Ploughboys". They play at a pub in Dublin, and their stuff is on the Irish music station on Aer Lingus flights sometimes (where I first heard them).

    Good old folk music.

These lads are from Skerries in Co Dublin and they're what The Dubliners might have sounded like if they'd been a metal band. The song, as the title suggests, is about the genocide of the 1840s.

Could someone help me out here. Was working in a bar and an Irish song was being played, everyone then started tapping the pint glasses on their tables. Doing my head in! Cheers.

I'm fairly certain it was, "stop listening to that song and get me a * pint!"

Over here a lot of the Scottish and Irish influences get blended together to form a kind of generic Celtic-Canadian sound, so this isn't all pure Irish influenced but it's all good.
