Actually you can't see the stars. To start with the Sun would have had an effect on the visibility of the star's light. Also when you take a photo it is possible that if the thing you are taking a picture of is well lit then your background can appear black. This is especially noticeable when the camera is configured for a shot with great day light exposure.

About the cross-hair. The only thing which has ever been pointed out about that was how they had appeared behind some items in the photo. But that was explained with the fact that the emulsion bleeds causing the very thin cross-hair to sometimes fade on parts.

The comment on the radiation. Well NASA stated that the astronauts were not exposed for too long therefore it would not be lethal. But there is evidence that they have been exposed a bit as majority of the Apollo crews members had health issues which may be related to this exposure.

Now the Shadows. The thing about multiple sources of light because of Earth, the Sun etc is correct. I won't go into detail because one of the users has already explained it all.

I always wondered how the Soviets were too stupid to figure it out yet some internet sleuths have uncovered the plot.

Yah, you'd think they'd have spoke up if there was even a hint of it being fake. Why pass up a good opportunity to make the US look bad?

point a telescope at the moon and you should see at least one of the reflectors left on the light side of the moon by apollo astronauts, case closed

Funny no one that can end all this has gone to the trouble to prove it one way or another.

Not matter what ‘evidence’ is presented, there will be skeptics who doubt the veracity of the lunar landing. I understand that many of the younger generation born years after the last lunar landing tend to support conspiracy theories tied to a larger government mistrust from years of scandals, lies, etc. In a 2004 poll, 27% of Americans between 18-24 expressed doubt that NASA went to the moon (no coincidence our TalkCeltic informal non-scientific poll is in line with this).

In 2001 the Fox network (“Fair and Balanced”, right?) aired “Conspiracy Theory: did we Land on the Moon?” The program’s so called experts were a gaggle of sub-par and totally non-credentialed ‘investigative journalists’ employing no critical analytical skills. The conspiracy theorists used this as fodder to continue their crusade.

Sadly, this is tied, in large part due to a lack of scientific understanding and a quantitative thought process. The moon is relatively close to our earth and our world is currently surrounded by a myriad of satellite and space technology. The 1970’s had us send space probes to Mars far beyond the moon and the Voyager 1 probe launched in 1977 is now nearly 2*10^10 km form earth!! The moon is ~360,000 km from earth at its closet point. Do we doubt that seven years earlier in 1962, John Glenn orbited the Earth? Why have we not returned? It is expensive as * and what would we get? Government has ballooned to a point where it would take forever to go back (the technology is the easy part, it is all the bureaucracy and red tape). America won the space and got the bragging rights. OK, what now? I believe shrinking government budgets will open a new opportunity for the private sector to get on board and look for opportunities (its only a matter of time before the planets are exploited for natural resources, right?)

To me the lunar landing was an amazing feat for ALL of humanity: this is what we can do when faced with a challenge of monumental proportions on par with several amazing engineering feats such as the Great Wall of China, the Panama Canal, the Chunnel, or even the Pyramids (oh, wait, the aliens built those right? :smiley-laughing002:).
