The last time I was in Wales, I bought a Welsh phrase book to try out in shops and stuff but the trouble was most of the shops in the area were owned by English people lol

It got me interested in the language though. I'd like to learn a bit of it.

I can basically understand what you are saying (there are some similarities). It says you can speak Afrikaans and can write it on paper as well and than you say to enjoy our day.

Main problem with Dutch is that the order of words often does not make sense to foreigners.

Altough I speak Dutch, I think a lot of you who understand a bit Dutch and learnt it in the Netherlands would find it diffifcult to understand me (as I have a strong Flemish accent - I can addapt it of course). It is like learning English in London and than trying to have a conversation with somebody in Glasgow - not that easy to be honest. :icon_mrgreen:

I am happy to see that those languages have NOT died yet.

Ever since i was young learning a new language has been a goal of mine, and spanish has always been top of the list. Now i've just came from holiday in Spain it's made me more hungry to learn the language.

Bought a Spanish book and cd today (learn Spanish in 30 days) for only £10, but as you can imagine, you get what you pay for. In my case, it's pretty *!

Looked on the Rossetta Stone website, witch i've heard is the best but that * to dear. £150 just to learn Level 1 (the basics) :O. £379 to learn all 5 levels.

Anyone know of any other websites or anything where it's a little cheaper to learn it?

    Norwegian (fluent) and Irish (well).

I also understand spoken and written Swedish and Danish, and most Scottish Gaelic and Manx.

I can read German and Dutch and understand them when spoken but cannot speak them readily. I can read French, Castillian, Catalan, Italian and Portuguese passably given that they're so similar to one another.

I use Norwegian (speaking, reading, writing), Swedish, Danish, German (all reading) and Irish (writing, reading and speaking) most, in that order.

Generally if you learn one language you can use it to understand another closely related one.
