Not too sure, but I don't think you would get much of a profit to be honest?

Don't imagine you'd get anything amazing to be honest. Probably best buying a share in Facebook or something.

From my understanding hugely profitable shares are the ones you need to take risks on, eg smaller emerging companies that go boom but on the other hand could also go bust, if you want safe shares that might earn you something over a looooong period of time I think oil might be worth looking at....I dont fully understand it all though.

The main and possibly the only satisfaction of owning Celtic shares would be that you could say you partially own the club. No real financial benefits here.

They are no different to a share in any other business, if you are talking purely in financial terms.

They can go up and they can go down, there is no distinct rules purely for football clubs. As Lord Sugar famously said though, never invest in a football club with the intention of making money. The Fergus McCann's of this world are vastly outweighed by the David Murray's.

I assume our share price goes up as the team themselves do better?

Same here Maaaaaark, we bought as a commitment to being part of a football club which has been a major part of our family's life, probably since the formation of Celtic. We bought that wee part in Celtic, not to make money, but to pass on to the future generations which have yet to be born into this world. We were born Celtic fans/supporters, and will die as part of that great Celtic family. :50:

I bought shares in Celtic when they first came out, after the second or third share issue they are now worth maybe half what I paid for them. I wouldnt imagine anyone would buy shares in a club to make a profit, unless you were gonna buy the club.

I occasionally look at the share price but it is just in curiosity. I would never sell them.

Buy them for the prestige, not the money and they will never go down in value.

Generally it will but it's not entirely directly related.

If we're qualifying for the Champions League every year and the figures on the balance sheet look better, ultimately that's what will dictate the share price.

If we're winning the SPL every season but running at a loss to do so no one will want to invest meaning the share price will plummet.

Our shares have hovered around the same mark for some time now, maybe a few pence up or down.

I play the yankee lottery every week and I've told my burd if I ever win the bigger jackpots I'm going to buy huge shares in Celtic. Maybe even become the next majority owner. I'd just love to be able to say here's 14M or whatever its spare change change for me, I'm using my own money to buy the next #7 striker this year. I'd invest in other things to make money. :celt_2: Its always nice to dream.

bought some for my old man and myself, purely for sentiment reasons if I'm perfectly honest. Wasn't looking for a return.

The added bonus of being allowed into AGM's doesn't hurt though! My dad went a few times when he was still around.

Whatever you do, don't buy shares in Facebook. Currently vastly inflated, being propped up by underwriters and wildly insecure in their price. Have dropped the last two days and will continue to do so for the forseeable future. Zuckerberg has lost £2.2 billion in personal shareholding since the IPO. Need to let it settle before deciding if it's a valid investment.

As for buying shares in Celtic, it's not exactly going to lead to a quick windfall, as folks on here have said. But it's not necessarily a bad company to invest in - stable balance sheet, capacity for exapansion in the coming years (Champions League football; European football becoming more and more lucrative, etc). Plus, having the emotional attachment to the club is meaningful. If you do end up investing, just keep an eye on the circulars, shareholder agreements, etc, that you receive to ensure that your shares are not being diluted by subsequent share issues and losing their percentage holding and therefore value. That seems to have happened to a few of the posters on here. You can avoid this by selling your existing shares and re-investing in the new share issue.
