Arsenal don't claim to have the best supporters in the world.

I hate seeing players get abused especially by their own fans no matter what i personally think of them. Look at it this was sammy scored a bundle and man city paid 6 mill for him and he never really got a chance there as they changed managers a few times and then we got him on loan and then for i think 1.2 million which for an international striker is a good deal. Now I Hear all the moaning and I agree as with all players he can be infuriating at times BUT if you take the other night as an example he won every flick on and in general is a good out ball and he doesnt give the ball away cheaply in general. Al in all for the fee what did anyone expect because we have paid far more for players who trully HAVE been a disaster ala tommy g but at least sammy contributes even if he can be a little inconsistant but he plays as part of the team and we arent privvy to exactly what instructions any player gets before a game so maybe lenny is saying he fulfills the role in the team i give him. Finally the 3 year contract covers celtic if they wanna sell and the player so is he so bad? I ask ya to be fair with regards his role as a squad player and i like that even when he gets the abuse he never hides nor goes into his shell but tries harder

the entire best fans in the world thing has been a myth for some time. We may not be 'bad' fans, but we're certainly in the middle. Sure when we get behind the team it can be special such as the last day of the season last year. But there is potential ugliness from our fans that has reared its head when the going has gotten tough, especially under Mowbray.

That ugliness takes the form of scapegoating whether it was Naylor or Samaras or Maloney or Fortune or whoever else the whipping boy of the moment is.

Too often when the going gets tough our fans turn into a 12th man for the other team, acting like spoilt children. But that's not peculiar to us, its a feature of most sports fans everywhere, we are not exceptional either positively or negatively.

I would love to know why Lenny gave him a new contract last season .
It shows the calibre of our team at the moment when English teams are not making bids for our players apart from Kayal and Izzy .

I don't necessarily mean a plan B like 'lump the ball up for the header'

In the Sion game it was a requirement because Sion were so poor in the air in their previous matches. In general it will be Gary Hooper as the lone striker (I'd imagine) if Lennon is really going to go for this as a Plan B.

I think at home is the best place to be tinkering, especially under these circumstances. In theory should be safer. I think the team Lennon put out had enough quality to win the game, Sion are a poor outfit.

I didn't see the game but surely Samaras wasn't the only one playing poorly.

tbh mate he didn't even play that poorly. The announcers were praising his ability to win headers and bring the midfield into play.

Personally I saw him not give the ball away much at all and win a bunch of headers with nobody playing near enough to him to benefit. He didn't score but I counted maybe 2 chances including the rebound off the keeper where the keeper was already smothering the ball when sammy got to it (sammy hurt himself in the process)

No he wasnt, but his playing meant the team had to be shuffled about with Commons on the right, where he is nowhere near as effective and Stokes on right mid, which is pointless. This also meant the creativity of Ki was stifled in midfield due to over crowding.

Neil just needs to trust that the 442 set up in the league should be good enough to be played against most sides at home. If it was a Milan or Barca, then perhaps. But not against teams such as Sion.

This set up meant we were unable to be anywhere near as attack minded as we normally are at home.

how does sammy playing shift commons out right?

Wouldn't Brown's reentry or Ki's current run in the team be a better explanation?

    nope it's definitely Sammy's fault.

As for the guy who says he's been going to CP for 30 years and he now feels entitled to boo. If you've been going for 30 years and you've had that attitude, then you've been a bad fan for 3 decades.

Thought that was obvious. Lennon wanted to play with Sammy up top and had to accomodate Stokes in the side. Stokes was stuck on the left and Commons on the right. If Neil had played a 442 with Stokes and Sammy up top, Brown would have played RM and Commons LM.

Is slagging off Sammy not tantamount to saying Lennon is useless?

Not good enough. Not consistent enough. Yes, he may be a handful 'on his day' but that won't win us the league, we need players who can do the business all season.

I'm not interested in slating any Celtic player.

    However,

It is hard to argue that he is good enough, once we get a mobile target-man in he won't play much of a role.

    Ha!

I don't get on their back because nothing good comes from it, but I don't believe he has enough quality for us. His statistics and performances indicate this.

He does offer an alternative style to Hooper and Stokes, but once we sign the type of mobile target-man Lennon is looking for he will be moved on.

its sure stressful to watch that guy play. the effort is there, but with little effect. maybe is hair get taught in his eyes and losses track of the ball. great height, but never wins a header. i think wee shawn can win more balls in the air then him. i always stands behind any player in a hoops jersey. but i think maybe he needs a fresh start elsewhere.

Not good enough, will never be good enough, needs a hair cut, frustrating, slows down play when your on the attendancy, doesnt release when he should, doesnt score enough goals, doesnt win enough headers especially for been about 6ft 3 missing far too many chances, and its tap ins am talking about ................

A DONT KNOW HOW ANYBODY ON HERE CAN DEFEND SAMARAS HE HAS SHOWN OVER THE 3 OR 4 YEAR THAT HE,S BEEN HERE THAT HE,S NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO WEAR THE HOOPS............... 1 good game against rangers is not worthy of a new 3 year contract just wish lenny would stop defending him, open his eyes and ship him the * out

see if he could acc be bothered playing instead of walking about the park or a really slow jog.... while puting his hands through his hair and a half harted jump for the ball in the air he would be good:50: we bought him for a reason:icon_mrgreen:

Sammy wants to play for the club and we should support him. Look at the likes of McCourt who has reportedly said he'd like to leave. We should support those who want to play for the jersey. If we as fans show no loyalty to the players than why should we expect the players to show us or the club any in return.
