My brother got me into the skipping he started doing it after reading a Bruce Lee exercise book he had. ( I thought it was better for burning calories then running but I could be completely wrong there.)

When I got my first rope I was absolutely useless and found it very frustrating but you build it up. Start doing a minute then two minutes. When I say an hour that was with breaks. I would do 8 sets of 5 minutes with a 2 minute break in between every morning before work. And when I was training properly I would most days do a second hour after I had done my weights on a night.

Unfortunately I haven't done anything for about 18 months and I am currently in horrific shape but I am going to get back into it ( maybe after the Juve game:smiley-laughing002:)

With my current fitness I am sure I have a good few weeks of frustration ahead of me before I get back into the routine.

    Good luck with your training.

I've been crippled for days before after leg workouts. Literally crawling along the floor just to go for a *:56: A love leg day, a feel more exhausted than any other workout. Finishing up with the leg extension after Squats and Leg press * kills me.

Ok so I have decided to sign up to the gym when I move back to Belfast. I am even going to buy some running trainers :icon_mrgreen:

Anyway, what is the best weekly routine for building up a bit of muscle. For now I have the next few weeks free and would like to work on a routine. Any of you able bodied athletes want to offer some help to a 24 year old, hairy, unfit male who wants to relive the glory days?

My advice would be to start off with compound movements. I am following a routine called Rippetoes starting strength.

Basically two different workouts done 3 times a week.

    First Workout A is :
    3x5 Squats
    3x5 Bench Press
    3x5 Deadlifts

    Second Workout B is :
    3x5 Squats
    3x5 Military Press
    3x5 Power Cleans

So one week its ABA, second BAB and so on and so forth. Do these exercises mainly, add in others if you feel you can do more, things like lat pulldowns, pull ups, calf raises.

Also every week add on 5-10 pounds in weight so you have a good constant progress.

So I've started at a new gym and been there for about a month now. Training for at least an hour every night. I was wondering can anyone recommend a decent pre-workout? Using one at the moment called Dymatize Xpand 2x. It's ok, but as its my first time using pre-workouts I would like to try something new just so I have something I can compare it too.

Just started the gym this week myself and they suggested that the rowing machine could help me warm up. As I have just started though I am sure those experienced of going for a while can give you a better routine.

As pre work outs go I use Jack3d gives me crazy focus in he gym I rarely have more the 20 seconds rest between sets. I just dont want to stop. Read reviews on fitness websites or bodybuilding sites but take most things they say with a pinch of salt.

A decent diet pre work out if u need it and a 8 week progressive programme is what I'm doing now.

    Diet is key!!!

Yeah, a mate recommended Jack3d and one he uses called Albuterex. I looked up Albuterex on google and the first link was from the Australian Government Department of health stating "Albuterex poses a serious risk to your health and should not be taken." :smiley-laughing002: Also read up on a few sites that Jack3d is supposedly banned in Britain?

It's not banned just not sold in shops that's would normally find pre workouts and protein shakes etc. The women who died during the London marathon was supposedly using jack3d when she was training but it never killed her like some people try to make others believe

Jack3D was/is banned in the UK, I am not sure if they won an appeal or something.

    Good stuff though.

What's everyone's favourite body part to train?

Chest is easily my favourite body part to train by some distance. Love smashing * right out them.

Followed by shoulders. But with biceps I probably get the best pump.

Bench Press is my favourite, so tri's and chest.
