I didn't really say that mate did I? I was trying, obviously unsuccessfully,to say that republicanism (Irish or otherwise) doesn't automatically mean that Celtic park is the place to voice this opinion, do you voice militant Irish republican views at your work? Is supporting the IRA the only Irishness you wish to remain at Parkhead ?
It's a statue of Brother Walfrid outside CP not Michael Collins.

I do voice them at my work yes. The republican movement is a huge part of my life but the point im making is no one should tell me its illicit because its not.

I wish any Irish aspects to be celebrated at Celtic park, all should be welcome. you cant censor the militant side because it offends an Ignorant group of people who get offended because they dont understand it, if the understood it they would not be offended. If they understand it but are still offended there anti Irish bigots.

Why was Celtic set up by Brother Walfrid? Was it not a directly linked to the war and famine. The same war and famine that we sing about, the songs you dont want to hear at CP?

You said other fans though, not the authorities. You may be correct in that sense by saying authorities.
And I think most would agree that saying "up the ra" is not referring to the old IRA, where songs are allowed to be sung about them. Certain songs are allowed, but singing up the ra is simply not allowed. The debate has been done to death. Let it drop and get on with supporting the team. What's more important at Celtic park? The team or the songs?

I really odn't get why fans just don't get it. If it's not allowed deal with it. By getting the club punished it is essentially punishing the other 40,000 fans that don't do it at games.

Too many media *..... let people tell them what's right and wrong without questioning it. Hefty amount of double standards from the people who criticise everything related to Irish history basically.

Then they'll come out with the old * about people being sheep when they are the ones down on their hands and knees being banged by Alex Salmond and his bullshit agenda, the lying anti-celtic media, and of course the SFA, who it's blatantly obvious to anyone who opens their eyes, are pro rangers. hate everything about us.

They are all causing this and the people who are agreeing with them need to stop looking down and criticising there fellow fans but respect their opinions.

I dont sing "Oh ah up the Ra" because it could be interpreted wrong and picked up as support of The RIRA or CIRA. But songs about the Provos, The IRA, The IRB or Citizen Army cant be criminalized!

Songs thru out history have been important to the Irish people but I agree at Celtic park the team takes presidence but know one should tell me I cant sing my stories and my songs.

If it hurts the club its not the singers fault for singing it, its the organization for banning it as it should not be banned.

Not sure about the war to which your referring (land leaguers ?) But Brother Walfrid set up Celtic to alleviate poverty in the East end of Glasgow - that poverty didn't have a nationality. We have as many Scottish roots as we do Irish ones, we can celebrate both surely? Songs about the Hunger strikers or snipers in S. Armagh do not celebrate our identity (Celtic FC) regardless of which spin is put on it.
I'm not suggesting we get rid of all Nationalist/Republican songs, nor do I think we should kow-tow to anti-irish bigots but I would rather celebrate Celtic as a football club.

So Celtic park is the only place you can do this? There are no other place you can sing to your heart is content celebrating Irish history?
I know I will sit in an Irish bar or at home and listen and enjoy because I can and it won't cause any bother to anyone else.

It really is that simple. Fans are divided over this yet it won't be resolved because it is quickly becoming where the songs are more important than the fans and team which is wrong. THere should be a a medium where we can all be happy and not make every game into a mass protest over something that can be done in other places.

Time to start listening instead of shouting

Yes it does. But there seem's to be a distinct lack of respect from one side of the argument.

Glasgow population doubled due to Irish Immigrants, the poverty was Irish lets make no mistake about that 90%+

I dont deny Celtics Scottish roots we are scottish after all but the club is steeped in Irishness with a huge Irish fallowing over the years, its no coincident is that its 2nd 3rd generation Irish that grow up to support the club. yes celebrate both definitely

True the provo songs dont celebrate Celtic but honors the struggle of Ireland in recent times. If groups of people want to band together to honor there people they should be allowed to do so. On a train, in a pub or in a football arena.

The argument is not about if its relevant to Celtic or not its if it should be criminalized which it should not

after all what does YNWA celebrate in our identity

i am really really sorry to say this but at the moment a small minority let the whole celtic support look like the hun support. it was always their assingment to bring shame to the name of scottish football supporters and now people all over europe see what these idiots in our beloved celtic shirts are doing and compare us with the bluenose scum! thank you very much! a big wise man once said:

„Celtic jerseys are not for second best, They don’t shrink to fit inferior players"

    same for supporters here! :celt_2::shamrock:

Tbh I don't see it like that. I see both sides lacking in respect at points.
But it's time to pack it in now.

We have the same passion and that is Celtic. Imo the argument about songs and chants is really just getting boring, has been for a long time. It has to be met in the middle by each side of the argument.
In one hand we've been told off more than once. We've now been fined and warned over future conduct. Yes I think Celtic could have handled it better, but it's done and so should this argument. It's damaging the club and it is harming more of the support than those who are participating in these so called illicit chants and songs. It's not wanted, rightly or wrongly, that imo should be the end of it.
Fans who are getting sand in their *'s about it should accept that there are aspects of Ireland that don't want to be let go, but there are plenty of songs that are allowed, including certain rebel songs, that are allowed and they should be accepted.

End of the day WE ARE ALL CELTIC SUPPORTERS and this should matter first.....The club that is Celtic FC. And if dropping a few songs keeps us together, out of trouble while still bringing a great atmosphere to wherever we may go then that is important.

To me that last paragraph seems reasonable and really can't be argued with. :50:

" our songs survived famine and opression " . yet the PC brigade among our support want to kill off our traditional songs , and support uefa over a condemnation of the celtic symphony . there are turncoats now turning their back on the republican element that was once a prevelent part of being a celtic fan . never heard anyone being offended by it ten years ago ...

" we dont care what the animals say " ..a true celtic fan wouldnt care . but it seems some celtic fans , inspired by the PR department led by lawell , do care . these are the fans that would rather see us win fairplay awards and be everybodys pal rather than sing the songs that were our * given right and symbolise the celtic community . fans that are ready to condemn their own for a banner that protested against the criminalisation of the celtic support.

we should all be together in singing the songs we have always sung , and if uefa sanction us for singing our songs , then * UEFA . it is the true spirit of celtic to stand up to unfair opression , yet their are supporters now saying they want rid of the hardcore repulblican element that has represented celtic for 60 years . " the animals " are winning , and some celtic fans are happy to let the traditions of the football club die . sad times.

It's about time that a lot of people grew up and start to think of Celtic Football Club as a football club, not some political party. I am tired of these so called fans dragging our great club into the gutter with their Pro-IRA songs and insulting banners, if you are that way inclined go and join a political party or found your own political party, but leave Celtic Football Club to the true supporters.

Rangers have had to cope with this sort of mindless morons for years, the last thing we need is to start tolerating similar morons within Celtic Park or at Celtic away matches.

If the Green Brigade are involved with raising such banners as shown at the recent match with Udinese then I think we need to consider disbanding this group or potentially face further actions from UEFA such as being banned from Europe. I was originally a supporter of the GB actions, however I sense it is being hi-jacked by more militant viewpoints these days.

Let's get back to supporting the greatest football club in the world by our traditional ways, we have great songs to sing, we have an awful lot to be proud of being Celtic supporters, so let's not let this mindless minority tarnish our clubs reputation around the world.

you cannot claim freedom of expression for you if you don´t concede it to everybody else. if uefa says that they don´t want such songs in their competition then you have to accept it. the tradition of our FOOTBALL CLUB is " a club open to all" !!!! you judge the british army for killing innocent people ( which is absolutely correct!! ) but at the same time you glorify the ira, a organsiation which was founded for resistance againt them ( which is also absolutely right!! ). but you have to see that some idiots ruined the reputation of the ira by killing innocent in senseless attacks in london and other citys in the uk... and there was never an official statement by those who sing such songs that they only have sympathy for the original ira who only protect their people from criminal conqueror
