It's neither fact that he has to answer questions or not answer them.

He obviously answers as he see's fit.

He was probably * off at the fact he asked all supporters to not make any negative headlines a day or so before the game, and in fact has pleaded with the support to "tow the line" with the wishes of both UEFA and the Scottish authorities.

I've absolutely no doubt that Neil Lennon will not agree with all the decisions taken by UEFA and the Scottish government etc. but he has a duty as Celtic manager to play his part for the good of the club to save financial penalties and negativity for the club as long as he is in the position.

Other managers were not in the position he is currently.

The fact is Billy McNeil is not the manager and him making comments doesn't split the support so its not the same as Lennon.

I suppose you're talking about the same fans who were calling for his head only a few weeks ago?

This is going to split opinion just like most things on here.

Fact is, Neil is employed and sometimes you have to do things you don't want to, or things you are told to do.

It's part of having a job.

IMO our fans have the right to protest & oppose certain things but uefa are not the problem.

As I noted in another thread, IMO our board are the ones who are looking to force change, as are the politicians.

Our board seem to have a definite agenda, particularly against the GB - and have had for some time.

Regarding our protests though, we should ensure that we give them more thought.

To say '* uefa' is just giving ammunition to all concerned; the authorities, the politicians trying to criminalise our every move, the board with the agenda, the hun media who are loving every minute of it, etc.

We need to ensure that we do not give them anything to complain about, as they will come down on us like a ton of bricks!

Support the team, support the manager and remember who the real feckers are!!!

    Hail Hail

Lennon's comments after the Udinese game can hardly be blamed for a "split in the support". The support is split because of those for and against the singing of songs etc.

If there is a divide in the support because the manager made a comment about misspelling then * help us all.

if that was the case they never would have been given there on section and the club would have gotten rid of them by now if there was any agenda

I wouldn't call it a spilt, but a splinter. The overwhelming majority want to do whats right for the club. It is best if you can't tow the line, just to stay away, because all you will do is create more negative headlines and get the club into further trouble. It amazes me why we even need to debate it. If you call your self a Celtic fan, why would you want to damage the excellent reputation of the club?

The point I have made throughout the discussion with you is that he is not employed by the club to make these statements, he is in control of the football team. He chose to make the comments that put him in a bad light which made him look naive. He didn't have to say anything at all, Lawwell would have shot his mouth off anyway.

Even if he did feel the need through some strong emotion to come out and to be critical the spelling jibe was unnecessary and embarrassing.

Other managers would not have let themselves be sucked into the debate in the first place and wisely would have only spoken of football.

Why don't you stay away? :blahblah1

If you even go that is! I'm not damaging the clubs reputation, it was built by the fans in the first place or did you think it was Lawwell?

I've agreed that the spelling comment was ill advised. I've no problem with him voicing his opinion on any other issues, and as manager he has every right to. I bet the Green Brigade and many other fans would have loved him to speak out over issues like the poppy? Not his job to, but I bet they'd be creaming themselves if he did. You have to take the good with the bad, it's not all positivity when there's 2 sides.

    I agree.

Again, unless a manager is in the position then it's guesswork. The old wise man across the city, or Walter as he was known in the media, demanded that the huns stopped singing songs that he himself admitted to singing when they were pressured by UEFA. It's part of the job whether we like it or not.

TBH Paul I know were you are coming from but I would have been appalled if he said a word on the poppy protest, that would have been mental as well. He made a small incident into headline news UK wide with his comments on the banner. He shouldn't say anything if he is going to be negative IMO.

He should praise the support if they are the twelfth man but keep it shut if a small chant is sung or banner unravelled, because the minute he opens his mouth the story becomes much bigger.

Embarrassing! And as someone said previous we put in a good show that night and all we hear about after the game is this! Saddening...Hail Hail

Lennon, Lawwell and Bankier drew attention to the banner themselves it was a small incident. All three went on the offensive with tv interviews, making the biggest possible fuss.

So after accusing him of being a yes man to Lawwell, basically your ideal situation involves him also being a yes man but in this case to adhere to whatever a tiny element of the support decide they will behave like?

As a fan of the man, I am happy that he is honest with his opinions and doesn't give a * about trying to appease anyone. As a fan of the club, sometimes I feel like him speaking honestly about tactics and player form/selection could disadvantage us at some point or possibly affect a player's morale, but on the whole I couldn't criticise him for being honest.

Strange that you got that message from what I wrote. :s:

I basically mean he should not get involved in the politics and concentrate on the football. Is it not Lawwells job to make these comments? Nobody likes him anyway.

So you're basically saying he has only ever to comment on the support when they behave, but the minute they don't he's to keep his mouth shut?

The Green Brigade should never dictate what a Celtic manager, or anyone else says about them.

This entire thread is just going round in circles and I'm dizzy.

In the words of Duncan Bannatyne, I'm out.

    Hail Hail :50:

Think the green Bridage will be slatting our greatest ever captain after they read tomorrow's sun, just like they did with Lenny on there forums.

They clowns are not bigger than Celtic football club and if they keep doing what they are doing your normal supports is going to turn, and that includes me.
