your average MSP or historically illiterate Scottish person (aka an SNP member) cant see past the line "I joined the IRA" I'm afraid; the fact that its about those who fought for Irish independence in 1916 doesn't matter to these people, they see IRA and think of the latter day IRA atrocities carried out in England; I can understand why people are offended by the IRA but in Scotland there is no attempt to even understand the context of the song, as far as many are concerned its Irish so it must be bigoted. I mean the huns think Fields of Athenry and Let The People Sing are bigoted ffs, and the moronic media up here indulges this fantasy.

The SNP cannot ban BOTOB and they would be opening a tin of worms if they did; but if UEFA ask the club to stop fans singing this and the "up the ra" lyric in the celtic symphony, we have to stop, or otherwise risk more sanctions; and no one wants that for the club I'm sure.

The cops are clearly on a crusade against celtic supporters at the moment; for now, lets not give them the ammunition they need to justify this ludicrous bill.

I've said before, and it seems that most people on 'my side' agree with me, that the only thing I hear at games I have a serious problem with, and the thing we'll be getting into bother for, is 'ooh ah up the ra'.

Sing the rest of the songs if you want, but I won't be joining in. :50:

I'm an SNP member, and I'm a history student and well-read on Irish history. I am by no means historically illiterate, and the overwhelming majority of SNP members and supporters I've spoken to on the issue are both historically literate and sympathetic to the historical Irish struggle. And that includes several Rangers fans, by the way.

I don't think they're smart enough for it all to be a ruse!

You must have big lungs to shout all the way from Thailand.

    "When I see you Celtic..."

That could be classed as a football song. I think Scrubs means Celtic songs rather than football songs.

the SNP wallows in victimhood and oppression complexes and continually harks back to Bannockburn 700 odd years ago, indeed I believe they will be proudly celebrating it in 3 years time which is of course their right, yet see no irony in criticizing and criminalizing those celtic fans who have the nerve to sing about a far more recent conflict in another country which was subject to hundreds of years of british oppression?

will Kenny MacAskill, he who said some people should "get over 1916 in Ireland" get over Bannockburn in 1314? somehow I doubt it.

just pointing out the obvious double standards.

Fair enough. I don't have a problem with people criticising the bill because I think it's a bad piece of legislation which has been handled very badly. But the reaction by some people has been borderline hysterical, with some people acting as if the SNP are some anti-Catholic/anti-Celtic organisation.

The bottom line is that the police are the tail wagging the SNP's dog over this legislation. Everything from the 'summit' to the new powers has been at the insistence of Strathclyde's finest.
