Celtic have secured the services of Motherwell's Scott McDonald, with the 23-year-old Australian striker now certain to join the Bhoys squad this summer.

Hoops manager Gordon Strachan pre-empted a possible move from Rangers for the player after the Ibrox club missed out on his signature on transfer deadline day in January.

Rangers, however, were rumoured to have tabled a £400,000 bid for the striker two months ago - and this is a figure Celtic have more than matched.

Well boss Maurice Malpas confirmed: "It is well known that Scott wants to move on from Fir Park. The club has succeeded in securing a healthy transfer fee for him and ensuring that he will remain with us to the end of the season.

"No club would wish to lose a player of Scott's quality but we wish him well in the future."

McDonald, who has notched up 12 goals this season added: "I have thoroughly enjoyed playing for Motherwell and I will leave with a lot of good memories.

"I hope the fans appreciate that I want to move on and develop my career and I would like to thank them for the support they have given me."

    thanks for that.
I can't say i really want him now. If we keep nagging at him we might start to sound desperate. If he was thinking to come he'd probably done it now like Thompson ** cough*.
Yet, seems good news, might boost our midfield.

I say it helps to WIN the SPL, Rangers signing Nacho Novo sure did, at the time we could have signed him, and I said I hope it doesnt come back to bite us in the *, and guess what, it did!

    Lets start afresh :50:

I wasn't suggesting for one second that SMcD will be a main striker, i think it's pretty obvious he will be back-up. But just because we need back-up strikers, doesn't mean they have to be of this guys standard, my sights are set slightly higher than that. Plus the fact his name still rankles with a lot of fans, i think there would have been FAR better options.

    hmm..... Are you sure?

WGS seems to not care about bringing in players a lot of the fan base dislikes, Miller, Pressley, Hartley and now McDonald.

The four of which i never wanted anywhere near Paradise (especially Hartley, and on all four cases it's not just because of the fact i didn't like them), and the four of which i've given my full support when they have signed.

At the end of the day, Scotteroo is not what i want to see at CP, because first and foremost he's not good enough, and to a lesser extent he made sure i had the worst day of my life THAT day.
