what's going on with wanyama? i remember lenny saying that we have signed him to play mostly as a central defender... i also remember mjallby saying that he could become as good a player as gallas or desailly.

an now when our defense is pish poor wanyama can't get a sniff. he surely can't be any worse than glenda or maj, could he? :87:

Really can't tell, still not seen enough of him.

He's got to be worth a shot though.

I would have played him there vs Inverness.

Mjalby also said Maj would be a great player for us too. Beginning to wonder
what has happened to Mjalby's good judgement of a player if he ever had it.

Wanyama looked very stiff and wooden to me on his first outing at centre back.
He might be better deployed in my judgement as a sweeper just in front of the back four, doing the sort of role Lee McCullouch does successfully for Rangers = a destroyer.

There was a lot of hype when we signed this guy and a lot of fans were creaming themselves at the thought of him playing.

However, seen him in a couple of friendlies and he looked out of place. Poor positioning in midfield and kept giving the ball away. Havent seen anything since to suggest he will do any better.

I cant understand the logic in blowing £1m on an unknown entity when that money could have been better spent in buying one or two SPL players that could have fitted into our squad.

We keep hearing about players being one for the future, but surely our youth system is good enough for this? And we havent won the league in 3 seasons now, we cant be affording players who cost a decent bit of money a couple of seasons to bed in. We need players to hit the ground running.

For all the criticisms of the Orcs they seem to be wise enough to buy players with experience and who are able to fit in right now.

I dont understand why we signed Wanyama, and I dont really care that he says all the right things, its what he does on the park. Nobody knows if he is a midfielder or a defender. I fear he is neither and we have bought another dud.

Perhaps we could have pooled the money we spent on Wanyama and Bangura and bought one good player that could have impacted now.

Can see him maybe getting some game time in defence soon. With the way that our CB's have been playin, barring Mulgrew, he'll get his shot sooner rather than later.

Very good post Kemosabe, says it all for me too :50:
Maybe someone should send this post to Lawwell & Co to wake the * up
and start running a responsible intelligent player signing policy at the club.

I dont see him as a centre half saw him play couple of times there and I dont think hes good enough in the air or positionally correct when playing centre back. I like him as a Midfielder because he is quick and good in the challenge, similar to Kayal.

His legs went long ago, the Dutch pundits were laughing like drains when he played against Utrecht over here. FC Twente were glad to see the back of him.

    And that was years ago.

I thought he was a CDM? Doesn't seem to fit the CB role from what I've seen.

I will reserve judgment though because he hasn't had a run as yet. It may be he is adjusting to training ect.

The fact that there was as good as no interest for him in Belgium, and Holland speaks volumes, imo. Plenty good young guys playing in Belgium are scouted by the cloggies, such as the wee man Mertens who ripped Hooiveld and Dan a pair of new ones last year.

Another million wasted if you ask me.

The new Gallas, Desailly, my *.

Belgian teams did want him though Standard Liege had a bid accepted for him and waited about 2 weeks to talk to him because he wanted to come to us :56:

When we were interested in signing him I looked on Belgian websites and all the wee comments sections were always full of Liege fans saying "please sign" "hurry up" and the usual ones who say things like "hes making us look like mugs" etc

dont forget this is the first kenyan to ever play in britain. theres a culture shock that comes with that. way too early to judge. imo i reckon he'll find his feet yet.

Given that we havent won the title for 3 seasons now, do you then think it was a wise move spending a £1m fee on a player who may not fit into our club, our culture or our country?

And how long do we give him?

Personally I dont think we have the luxury of affording players that we have spent a lot of money on to then babysit them while they try and fit in.

I dont blame the player, I just think that he was a poor buy. We could have spent less money on one or two SPL players and bought someone who would have fitted in straight away.

The fact he cant get a game before Dan or Loovens is a worry, and there is no chance he is going to get into the midfield.

If the Club think he is actually going to be as good as they say, then this is the ONLY way we can get such a player - we couldn't afford him or attract him once he had developed his reputation.

The reason we don't play him ahead of Glenda or Madge, is because Lenny has a blind spot when it comes to experienced internationalist - who have been proven to be * for this club for quite some time...Glenda, Madge & Sammy.

Harsh to judge him this early, if he comes good - he'll be worth far more than £1m.

I remember people saying much the same things when we signed Ki a few years back.

I'm not making any claims comparing Wanyama and Ki regarding their potential but I think the £1m fee for Wanyama wouldn't stop us from signing any other targets.
