He has a cult following within the Celtic support.

That doesn't justify his place in the squad obviously, but he would be missed by a good few if he left, at least for a little while.

Because, as said, has turned into a cult player. The don't sell McCourt song down at Norwich was sensational, sang for ages.

    I still can't imagine he's on anything more than £7k a week.

Has a huge cult following but, conversely, seems to irritate a large number of people for no good reason.

He's hardly played and not really done much wrong when he has, yet his detractors have a go at him on the rare occasion he comes on after 79 minutes and doesn't score a mazy solo goal.

There's your clue to why people don't want him in the team. What do you mean "his detractors"? People are right not to want him at Celtic when he hasn't done anything. He's essentially contributed as much as Daryl Murphy. Don't see anyone defending him when people say he's not good enough.

I like McCourt, but not enough to want him in my starting 11 or even in my top 7 substitutes. Talented player but not got what it takes to play for Celtic. Wasting his career here, he should have left 2 years ago.

Paddy McCourt played in one of my favourite games ever the Sammy Sunday at ibrox, also to add to that the tackle when he smashed the left back, I will never get sick of on watching on youtube.

Paddy McCourt is clearly not in our plans anymore and probably rightly so, we've stepped up a gear or two in quality in the last year. But to say he's contributed * all is unfair. In Lennon's first full season he made about 30 appearances altogether, and a lot of them as a starter. We were unlucky to not win the league and to say he contributed nothing to our form that year is bullshit.

For a start I remember him scoring a brilliant solo goal to clinch us a win away to Inverness 1-0, which was the first game of the season I think. Also remember him coming on and setting up a goal for Hooper to beat Dundee United away in the last few minutes. Away to Rangers when we won 2-0 he started and played the full game in behind Samaras, which is his best position imo, and was brilliant, one of his best performances for Celtic. He's scored a fair few crackers over the years aswell when given an opportunity.

Hasn't been given any sort of prolonged run in the team really since then so to say he has 'done * all when he's played' is completely unfair because it is impossible to make an impact when you come on for fifteen minutes or so every few games. Not that I'm complaining, he isn't needed anymore and should leave as soon as he can to a team where he'll be playing every week.

I must say, Paddy McCourt would be in my team just now (at least in domestic games).

I've been pretty unimpressed by the standard of football Celtic have been playing this season in the SPL and domestic cup competitions. I think there has been a real lack of imaginaton, creative influence, flair, direct running and real exciting football. As far as I can see there is no one currently in the squad better suited to fill that void than Paddy McCourt.

Even in games when Celtic have ran out comfortable winners, I don't think Celtic have been all that impressive this season. I think there should always be pressure for Celtic teams to win, but I also think there should be a pressure (particularly this season) to play exciting, attractive and entertaining football. I believe McCourt can provide that, and would offer more than one or two current first team regulars in domestic games.

I agree with this to be fair mate. We are very laboured going forward at times and the slower the tempo, the harder we find it to break teams down. We don't really have a central midfielder that can thread a ball through and unlock a defence. We also don't have a winger that is willing to really have a go at the full back, apart from McCourt and Forrest, and both have hardly featured at all this season. I think we look very predictable going forward if i'm honest. A player like McCourt brings something totally different to what everyone else can provide.

You say our tempo is too slow and you suggest McCourt as a solution, makes no sense, he's the ultimate tempo slower, head down, dribble, dribble, dribble.

You are not grasping what i'm getting at. Our tempo is going to stay slow regardless if McCourt plays or not, and we havn't got a centre midfielder that is going to split open a defence. So why not have someone in the team that is willing to have a go at players and try and create something. Because right now, we more often than not go from side to side, and look very short of ideas of how to break teams down. McCourt has the capability to work an opening. This isn't me saying he should be playing every week either, but right now, we are not great to watch I must say.

Add "tackled" in between each "dribble" and that is an incredible description of Mr McCourt.

That's exactly the way I've seen the majority of domestic games this season. :50:

I do believe McCourt can offer that little bit of magic which I think the current starting 11 in domestic games is lacking.
