Afford it? Yes we could. Pay it? No we wouldn't.

Does it not mean fee and wages? As in 4mil fee and then he's going to earn 4 mil over 3 years or something like that. There's no way there is any truth in that article otherwise.

Think something has just been lost in translation or something. Could you honestly see us shell out 8 million ?

I think it's pretty much irrelevant whether we could afford it or not - an £8million pound player wouldn't want to come to the SPL.

not necessarily as player value's are so screwed up nowadays , no player really has a set value as there is always a bigger fish ready to pay that bit more , andy carrol is a prime example:50:

It would be £7m actually, the reported 8m will be referring to Euros as it's an Italian article it came from, not that it makes it any more believable or anything :icon_mrgreen:

We would shell out that sort of money if there was an almost certain chance that we would recoup that money in a future transfer of the player or gain guaranteed Champions League group stage football for winning the league. Since the player is 31 it's a highly unlikely situation that we would get anything close to what we paid for him and we all know the Champions League situation for Scottish clubs. I think the article is nonsense to be honest but even if there was a shred of truth to it I don't think it's a deal that our board would even consider.

Beside the above point, if the day comes that our board felt that £8 Million is beyond their capabilities, then it is also the day they have outstayed their welcome.

I wouldnt like to see us spend £8m on one player when our team is as poor as it is. It makes no sense to have half a team made up of free transfers and one £8m player. I think we should be spending more but I would rather see say 3 players of £3m, £3m, £2m than one big signing

No way, we wouldn't spend that all on one player unless he was a Messi.
