do you guy not remember the board saying if they are going to get any "BIG" names in it going to be getting done at the end of the transfer window you have to remember its an early start to the season so we are a good few weeks in when we woulda started last week if it was a normal season we will get new players before it finishes and if lennys signings last year are anything to go by we will be in for a treat so dnt worry!

Does noone else think the end of the transfer market is too late? Our first game against Rangers is 2 weeks later, I would have liked to have had a settled team for that.
One of the main reasons Rangers have won the league the last few seasons IMO is that they have such a settled side that has played together for quite a while. I know we're trying to build towards that and things are looking good at Celtic Park, I just don't want to go to Ibrox with a team that can't play together. It seems like we're essentially trying to get a GK, CB & Striker, that's basically the spine and if they can't play as a unit we could be in trouble.

Keane is going to LA, not NY. Two years, 8 million.

The fee, yes but his wage demands? No chance.

There's a few things affecting our lack of activity in the transfer market imo:

    - size of squad, it's well known we operate seperate budgets for purchasing players and wages due to the size ofthe squad I imagine we are already up at the upper limit of the wages budget, therefore if we don't off-load some players then we'll have to use some of the purchasing money for players wages, leaving it later gives us more opportunity to off-load some players and thus may mean we can spend a bit more on a player instead of using that money for wages.

    - wage demands, we have a pretty rigid wage structure at the club so even if we could afford the transfer fee the wages demanded by the players may be outwith the structure we have in place, we can't just go breaking that structure constantly as it may well lead to dissent within the team.

    - we can't afford the high prices so that often means waiting to near the end of the window to see who's left that we may be able to offer a lower amount for if the selling club wants them off their books, not ideal but it's the reality we are faced with.

    - attracting players, frankly the SPL isn't a great attraction, a wet Wednesday night in Motherwell or Inverness in January isn't the easiest sell in the world, despite our fame we still play in the SPL and it's a consideration for some players.

Overall I think we have stood still. The difference is Rangers are weaker having lost Wattie and sold a couple of good players.

i think that's our biggest hurdle. if we offload some of the deadwood, we'll be able to bring in the players need no trouble.

i wouldn't agree, gunt. i think we have improved. we're certainly a better team now than we were this time last season. i thought we got stronger the longer the season went on, bar a few games.

Rangers have definitely got weaker. they were a one man team - Walter Smith.

right Bhoys and Ghirls, the window isn't shut yet so don't get your knickers too much in a twist.

as always, in Lennon we trust.
