We could win the league with 7 games left. Last times we did that we kept on playing our top team, presumably chasing some stupid points record. IMO. forget that and after the league is won blood guys like Sno, Cuthbert, that reserve right back who just came back from loan and a few others, play Kennedy etc. I would play Sno in all the games after its won to really try him out and I would play a couple of other youngsters in each game until the end of the season. It would be a great chance to test these guys and give them experience. Not interested in points totals etc

i think if we know that lenny and maybe a few others ( magic, miller & telfer ) wont be there next season then we should defo give a few of the fringe players the remaining games. young kennedy should defo come in. unless of course we gotta stay focused for the champions league final..... yeah i know dreamer eh...... hahahahahaha

I you don't get any extra money for finishing a certain amount of points clear. I'd give the youngsters some experience.

Agree but I remember both O'Neill and Strachan sticking to the first picks for most of the games after clinching title so they must have been chasing records. Not worth it in my opinion.

Under MoN he gave Maloney and Lynch etc a wee chance after the title was wrapped up but Strachan kept playin his strongest team but at the same time he had already giving the best young players at the club their chance throughout the season, ie Maloney and McManus etc, but i would imagine maybe a few would get a chance this season esp considering we have had a decent European campaign this year

I hope he does blood 3 or 4 in an otherwise strong team. No point in simply playing the reserves (like Dalgliesh did when league was lost) as they wont learn as much that way.

I think its vital that a team like celtic should give the youngsters a run around when the season is won, let them taste the big time, big croud, fans singing, huge atmosphere etc.
It lets them experience what it will be like when they eventually break through into the 1st team.

agree to most of the above but we have most of our half decent youngsters out on loan at present and i think it would be unfair on the clubs we have lent them to ........:celt_2:

The youngsters are our future! who says we can't win with 3-4 youngsters on the team? I'm sure they are quality as well, give them a go :50:

I think WGS would have played any half decent young fullbacks if we had any. I'd like to see Charlie Grant get a run out if we have the chance. Who are the other options? I don't really think Rocco Quinn has it and Lawson has probably missed the boat at 22.

Agreed on the Rocco Quinn thing but always thought wee Lawson looked a decent enough wee player. His position is one you don't get many young guys who come through the ranks playing, for that he should maybe be considered and 22's still young (though, not in the eyes of the SPL). We definitly should be blooding the young uns once the league's wrapped up. Whether WGS will or not remains to be seen.

Its up to the 1st team players if they need the rest and want to sacrifice their position in the team I can only see maybe some of the fringe players getting a game to prove themselves ie. Deek, Lawson, Sno

Sometimes the quality just isn't there though.

We'll be fortunate to one player a season from our youth setup who is good enough to take the step-up. Most we will be lucky to get a small transfer fee for and wish good luck to them.

I think it's been said, but with so many of the most promising youngsters out on loan - McGowan, the boys at Ross Cty etc... I feel that WGS will look to blood the players around the 1st team squad at the mo.
Especially Sno, Brown, Riorden, Cuthbert, Kennedy, Conroy, McGlinchy, Sheridan & the 2 Scandanavian boys....* thats quite a lot!!!

More importantly though we need to get Doumbe playing at CB (instead of Pressley) with O'Dea in preperation for Milan, or Mick or JFK.
We need to get a shape sorted & have the players used to their positions for Milan - once we're out of Europe, I'd start putting some of these guys in gradually.

What a desireable position to be in, EH?

Id play a reserve side as we dont get much chance to give players a run in the team. We're not like Bercelona etc. who can rotate their team and still expect to win, even in europe. We should take the chance to play our second string, even against the huns, that would be humiliating for them regardless of the result.

I would certainly agree and think Strachan will give some of our promising young players a run in the first team if we can win the league early. That has already been indicated when it comes to Kennedy. I think O'Dea could play at the back also. Sno, Lawson in midfield. Get Riordan in as well up front.
